Sorry for the terminologies medyo newbie kase pag dating sa sasakyan.
TIA!

1- the air intake tube/hose usually cracks at the bellows area (flex point). what you did is a common acceptable procedure when it is heat and age cracked. or, you can repair the crack with oxygen sensor safe silicone rtv sealant. best if you replace it with a new one.
2-don't be so obsessed with an engine overhaul. many a time car owners find it unsatisfactory service or some new problems injected to the car by poorly equipped, poorly trained "mechanics". what you can do is to have the engine resealed at the front, rear and at the valve cover gasket if the mechanical condition is still serviceable

As long as your engine is not consuming oil, leaking or emitting white smoke then it should not need an overhaul. You may want to get a compression test if you want just to assess the health of your engine just as well.
I agree with what jick.cejoco says on the intake; if you want to upgrade then you can look at getting a Simota tube from Banawe then a K&N filter. If not, get a replacement part for the cracked flexi tube of your Corolla intake and stick to the OEM filter. You can try inquiring with Toyorama at Banawe (near E. Rodriguez) or NGK parts. Check also with the CASA to compare prices or even walk around and see if you can find a surplus part.

I had my last compression test done at Speedyfix in San Juan; i was charged around P 300 i think.
In Banawe, try Motocraft or Exalta along N. Roxas. Speedlab should have one as well. It's a quick procedure lang naman.
Yung sa K&N, yes it's a cone-type. However, if you're not much into mods, OEM should be quite fine.
Be careful with channels like "China Observer" on YouTube. There is a clear bias in their posts and...
