Cleaning properties are partially due to the additives... partially due to the octane. As long as your fuel is higher in octane, you can claim that it "cleans" the engine better than regular unleaded.

The truth is... high octane burns cleaner, leaves less deposit. So get the highest octane you can...

    LPG.

Alcohol is also an octane booster. But unless you advance your engine's timing more to take advantage of the boost, you're actually going to lose a little power on a petroleum-alcohol mix because it has less energy density... that's why some people don't get better FC on V-Power, because their engines don't adapt to it. Ideally, you can get better FC and more power on V-Power because it allows you to lean out your fuel settings (less consumption) and advance ignition timing (more power). But unless your car does this automatically, it's a waste, except for the added cleaning properties and knock-defense.

But most modern gasolines are relatively high octane compared to before, so the cleaning properties of one gas versus another isn't as big of a gap as between the 92 octane unleaded and the 89 regular you might see from time to time in the province. But a load of 95 from time to time certainly won't hurt your engine... your wallet might complain, though...

Niky, is the trivia on the additives in Blaze also true for their XCS fuel? Now I have a dilemma whether to get XCS or V-power.

If your car does fine on XCS, leave it be... but if it's only happy on V-Power, go ahead.

I don't honestly know what's in Blaze... but I've bashed my head against it for the past year... and no matter what I do, when I switch from V-Power to Blaze, I really feel a difference... my motor has been tuned and the timing advanced for 95 RON and up... so why does it retard on Blaze? That should only happen when the octane is too low.

I talked to some people about it. Kevin Limjoco says that some Porsche guys (these are highly strung engines that require high octane) also have issues with Blaze, and it was complaints like these that made Petron lower it from a claimed 97 RON to 96 RON.

The final nail in the coffin, for me, was seeing Ghosthunter's car gain 8 freaking HP after he switched gas, from Blaze to V-Power. If I remember correctly, they weren't able to advance his ignition too far with Blaze, but V-Power let them max it out.

Well, it's up to you. If your car runs fine on XCS, go ahead, but from the experience of another guy with the same tuning as mine, XCS might not be as good as V-Power for 95RON-only cars.

Niky: The Vvti engine of the altis automatically adjusts right? So this means that I might be able to maximize V-power?

i get better results naman with blaze than vpower.. maybe because it was tuned with blaze but i do fill up with xcs paminsan minsan din..

I'm planning to refill with 95 ron next time but I still have a 1/2 tank full. Is it okay to wait and empty the tank or should I mix it up with 98 ron to compensate for the low octane?

Wala bang masisira kung hintayin ko low fuel then fill up with 95 ron or dapat agapan ko na?

there should be no problem going to and back from a lower octane to a higher octane gas. there should also be no problem too if you are mixing both.

baka nanibago lang yung fuel sensor mo bro. normally, it would normalize after a while. try mo muna gumamit ng 93 ron and ubusin mo muna yung laman ng tank mo. sayang din yung matitipid mo.

For the Honda FD? Whatever is in your manual.

I don't know if the VVTi can maximize V-Power.

    ----

Guys, the info for your particular car is in your manuals or on your fuel door. AFAIK, if it says 95 RON only, V-Power is the best. If it doesn't specify, anything else will do. If it runs better on that gas than V-Power, then your car is optimized for lower octanes. Some cars built for lower octanes don't run as well on high octane and vice versa. It's really car dependent. The only thing I can really tell you is: if your car needs high octane, apparently, Blaze isn't it. XCS might be okay, but I don't have enough experience with it to tell... a friend whose car is tuned for 95 is running it right now and reports some hiccups. He will try V-Power when he uses it up.

    sir djerms

based on my expirience on our 1zzfe when i filled a 93 ron (caltex silver) from V-power due unavailable ang V-power sa most provinces he i noticed na may loss of small amount of power and acceleration and mas madiin ang tapak sa gas .. FC has decreased too ..

regarding in choking problem what are the symptoms?

    TIA

imho, it can run on 93 RON. so the regular unleadeds can do well on that.

If knocks are not apparent, your engine's computer had adjusted to the gas grade, but don't do it permanently. The ECU won't guarantee 100% success rate. Micro injuries to your engine may accumulate which will eventually surprise you one day.

As a precaution shift to a 'conservative type driver', avoid hard-aggressive driving, very heavy traffic situation, steep climbs, and overloading.

Bigay mo na lang kaya sa kin gas mo para wala ka na problema

ganito pagkakaintindi ko about octanes... The amount of octane in your fuel determines how far the mixture can be compressed before it pre-detonates. Higher the amount of octane the lesser is the risk of pre-detonation due to compression. And that's about it. Higher octane by itself has nothing to do with more energy or more power or better gas mileage.

so it means that if your car uses a higher octane fuel, the pre-detonation is lesser. so it means, walang carbon residues. dahil ang carbon is a by-product of unburned fuel due to pre-detonation.

to conclude: if you are maintaining and using a higher octane fuel, your engine will be cleaner, although not directly, because of lesser pre-detonation. and that's about it. yung carbon residues naman can be cleaned by doing italian tune-ups once in a while or via the cleaners na meron sa lahat ng fuel.

if your car runs on 93 RON, then its fine and leave it the way it is. if it rattles , its a sign of pre-detonation, which tells you to use a higher octane fuel.

Niky: Thanks again for the info.

M2 & s_quilicot: I experienced chocking for a very short period lang when I engaged reverse (AT vehicle) backing up from our garage. But one thing's for sure, I really feel that my Altis became sluggish running on 93ron. It was way better running on xcs but I want to try Vpower next time. If it yields better FC, I'll stick with it.

gaganda lang siguro yung hatak at kung carb type yung auto mo di agad magbabara yung carb mo, so no need to use carb cleaner..

Sluggish dahil retarded ang timing as a compensating ECU response to prevent pinging.

Dont put a joke in your million buck car. Teasing you car occasionally is
    enough.

Instant ba ang adjustment ng ECU once I go back to 95ron? How long before timing goes back to right settings?

Palagay ko, meron ng 'RAM' yang on-board computer ng kotse mo, so it is as good as instantaneous, but the effects maybe delayed a little.

Pwede mo rin tanggalin fuse sa ECU for 10 secs to reset it.

Ang importante is the assurance that you are within specs.
