Since I still dont' use my newly acquired "old car" because I'm yet to register it this week, I don't fill up the tank that much--just enough to start it every morning. Though I fill it up by about two-three liters of gasoline once a week, twice na akong namatayan ng makina (while idling) dahil naubos yung stock na gas. My question is, may epekto ba to sa engine? My neighbor said that "lalakas ang konsumo ng gasolina nyan kapag laging nauubusan." Is this true? Why?

NExt question, how much gasoline does a regular 1.6 engine consume for let say an hour? 'coz I let my engine idle for half an hour every morning.

Last question, how much ang gulong na 13"? and ok na ba ang surplus? nagtitipid kasi..hehehe isang gulong lang naman kasi. Thanks mga master!

Thanks for this thread bro! While kind of similar to this situation, I have also experienced running out of gas while driving. I'm the type of person who wants to drain the gas tank (yung tipong naka-ilaw na yung low fuel warning all the way from Muntinlupa to Quezon City or vice versa) before filling up. I have a similar question: am I harming the engine by doing that?

As for surplus tires, I have to confess... for my last two secondhand cars, I would just buy "Class A" surplus tires to save a bit on cost.

Isang beses lang medyo pangit yung nakuha ko... after it was installed and i drove off, I noticed that the ride was really bumpy.... I checked the tire again and I concluded that the surplus tire I got was a bit "oblong" kaya naging bumpy yung ride. Buti nalang the shop agreed to replace it with a better surplus tire.

Of course, my next ride will be brand new (and company-subsidized) so I think I'll stick to brand new tires when needed.

My father is a former mechanic of isuzu and he always reminds me not to run out of gas kasi aside from hassle ito it will damage your fuel system and it will shorten the life span of your fuel filter mas maraming nakukuhang dumi kung palaging sinasagad ang fuel tank. Once you have defective fuel filter and without knowing HALA... next problem is in injection and combustion chamber. We all know naman na madumi din ang oil products especially diesel.

In case of emergency and you dont have enough gas naku baka ito ang maging cause ng pagkamatay... run out of gas kaya namatay ang pasyente. It still better to fill your tank kahit 1/2 lang.

Di nga daw recommended na mag gas up pag halos ubos na ang gas sa tank for the same reason.

Me on my part, I gas up pag umilaw na ang low fuel indicator. Takot ko lang na tumirik sa daan.

Sa Avanza pag umilaw, mayroon pang mga 8 liters of gas, sa altis is about 10 liters.

BTW, pag nakalusot ang mga dumi na ito sa fuel filter, magbabara ang mga jets mo and magiging palyado ang makina.

*reym: Thanks. very informative. from now on I won't let my car run out of gas. Thanks talaga. now I know.

*Esnie.com: Thanks, sundin ko payo mo. Yun din inaalala ko (for emergency). Hanap talaga ko gulong na surplus lang. No money for brand new. Siguro kapag nakaipon na lang. And I'm waiting na din kasi dun sa ibibigay sa kin ng brother ko na low profile mags. With that kasi, I also need to buy a low profile tire din.

*Horsepower: medyo matagal ba talaga ang 30 mins? sabi kasi kapag di ginagamit, i-idle daw. Newbie here. Your suggestion is surely welcome. Thanks.

TO ALL: Gano kalakas sa gas ang pag-idle? Please give me naman a rough estimate kasi kino-compute ko kung gano kalakas sa gas tong 1.6 staurn ko.
    Thanks!

better to run the car than let it idle for long. ikot mo lang sandali sa kalye nyo. kahit 1 block lang ok na.

as for the fuel, mahihigop yung mga dumi at latak sa ilalim ng tank.

good tires = your safety. may mga murang tires na good quality. just search the threads. don't compromise.

aside from pinapainit mo ang engine mas maganda kung lalagyan mo ng load ang engine like driving it in street lang in this pati ang mekanikal ng auto mo ay gagalaw at hindi magkakaroon ng squick sound.

mas maganda kung lagyan mo ng madaming gasoline ang tank kasi during hot weather the gas in your tank evaporates so yung 3liters mas madali mauubos yan, especially if you dont have covered garage. Kung madalas ka maubusan ng gas masama din and it will damage your fuel system.

if you want cheaper tire, madami dyan. kadalasan surplus din some are made in china pa pero matibay din.

I don't understand. Why do you have to idle for half an hour?

dude i don't think its a good idea to idle that long.

my experience is that if your engine is newly rebuilt or overhauled, you'll have to run it on idle for some time for the new rings and cylinder liners to seat properly.

but if you have an old engine, idling for too long not only wastes gas, it wears out the engine a lot more. the fact that you're wearing out your engine while the vehicle is stationary and you're not getting anywhere is in itself a waste of your time and engine. the prolonged idling could also cause gasoline to enter your oil, diluting it to the point where its 10% gasoline. gasoline in oil = bad news.

save your time, money and vehicle. don't idle every day. just leave it alone. basta maganda yung langis mo hindi naman mag stuck-up yan. every month, ride your car to jollibee na lang para magamit kahit papaano. thats better than idling.

    *winferrer :

The principle is the same, except you would damage a more sophisticated fuel system.

Mas madali pang papaandar ang carburated na nabarhan, buksan mo lang carb, linis filter, sundot mga jets, sundot idling jet takbo na. sa EFI pag nasira ang pump which also serves as your carb, cgurado gastos.

You can damage your fuel injection system because of the "latak" sa gasolina and the catalytic converter can be also affected according to some mechanics and magkaka hangin and fuel line mo at fuel pump rin bka masira pero there is no permanent damage on the engine just do not do it often ang dangerous is that if you are an automatic and you ran out in the middle of the road while your gearbox is engage in drive then you might have a problem and it is cheaper to fill up above 1/4 because less evaporation best to fll up in the morning and tell the gas boy to use trigger 1 less air due to slower pump

in my experience of a rarely used car nasisira yung gas sensor kasi ang gas pag natuyo nagiiwan ng mantsa masama kung electronic pa yung sensor mo also yung mantsa sa side walls ng fuel tank becomes abit of dusty yun ang nakakabara sa fuel filter

running idle is good to warm up the engine but remember you got rubber parts in your underchassis like balljoint bushing, shock absorber damper etc.. if it doesnt move it will become brittle and those elastic rubber will crack.. mapapagastos ka lang kaya its better to run it 1 block a day or every other day...

Run out of gas--ano epekto sa makina?
