for god's sake the car is 14 y.o. the starter must have been rebuilt or remanufactured at least two times. if it hasn't been, most of the causes of your symptoms are from the starter contacts and/or carbon brushes. the solenoid (relay) has two windings namely pull in and hold in windings. as the name implies, the pull in windings pull in the plunger of the solenoid to 1. engage the drive gear, 2. make contact between terminal 30 (hot at all times) big cable straight from the battery with the "C" terminal which goes and is permanently connected with the armature through the carbon brushes and to ground. now, with age and multiple start cycles, the contacts(readily replaceable) wear out and does not have electrical contact between "C" and terminal 30 meaning the battery current does not flow to the starter or the carbon brushes are worn not completing the circuit for the solenoid to ground. make a simple diagram from this and it will make you rediscover the art of the starting motor cycle of operation. the most common expendable items for a nippon denso starter are the solenoid contacts and the brush and holder assembly. enjoy the ride.

your car does not need a "mechanic". your starting systems problem is not mechanical. your car needs a total technician with specialties. remove/replace procedure just makes you spend more time and money on guesswork. you might as well go to a gypsy and ask what the future holds for your car
