January 18th, 2007 06:18 AM #1Hi guys,
Im planning to buy a second hand car from from a auto dealer....My question is, is it possible for the autodealer to adjust back (rollback) the digital odometer to make it appear that the mileage is low?
Another thing, is mileage are one of the primary considerations in buying second hand car?

January 18th, 2007 07:39 AM #2Buy the car from a reputable dealer. Anything is possible when it comes to odometers. Look at the condition of the car, the engine, the interior, the paint and the tires. Ask yourself if the car condition matches the odometer reading of the car. If not, then probably the odometer was tampered with already. I've HEARD of digital odometers being manipulated but have not come across any yet.

Yes they can be manipulated, just as easily as the traditional analog ones.

yes it can be tampered.although its easier to spot a manipulated analog odometer than a digital. in digital odos you can only know if its tampered is if you hit a certain mileage like from 9k to 10k, all of a sudden it turns 20 or 30k. what they do is short the lcd readings. its actually easier to tamper a digital than an analog odometer if you have the equipment.

Heck, some guys doing DIY at home have accidentally reset digital odometers (not just "rollback" or "pitik"... back to zero pa!) just by hitting something the wrong way with a screwdriver or messing with the ground on their electrical systems.
Tama yung mga iba. Car condition first and foremost, odometer reading secondary.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

My father experimented his DIY odometer reseting on our two cars before.
2001 Ford Ranger XLT
he removed the odometer assembly. binalot niya ng aluminum foil ang lahat ng circuit board, para daw mag short ang lahat ng capacitor and the memory batteries tapos iniwan niya ito nang isang gabi at kinabukasan nung ibinalik niya ay nag back to zero.
2002 Nissan Frontier
again, he removed the odometer assembly but all electronics were still plugged. tapos ginamitan niya ito ng "PITIK" ng lighter (ung magnetic na igniter) sa bandang ground ng odometer assembly. tapos nagbli-blink yung digital display at nagbabago. hanggang sa nakuha niya ang desired na mileage niya.
He did all these out of curiosity. He's an electronics technician and working for the largest telecommunication company here. nakarating na kase ng japan at nag-training dati dun. kaya daming theories at daming alam. parang McGyver.

October 23rd, 2010 06:18 AM #8yep theyre right. odo reading is secondary... engine status is the must.... buy from a reputable dealer.. huwag sa mga buy and sell website... kasi pag sa delaer ka bumili... pede to itest drive ng long driving yun auto... shall we say ibiyahe mo agad ng visayas o pagudpud... para in case na magloko/like overheat... pede mo ibalik at papalitan...
Na lock ang Gcash ko, need verification pa and kasama sa list nila ang philsys ID paper, but when I...
