    Got my car battery drained for unknown reason yet and cannot start my hilander anymore, i dont have a battery charger but found this very old ups that has a none working battery. So i open the ups, removed the old battery and rewire so i can connect the + - wire to the car battery corresponding terminal hoping it can charge. Charged it for 6hours and it works, it able to revive my battery and start my car.

    Just sharing coz its working.

    ako naman i use an old 3SM batt for the desktop and kung merong brownouts as an inverter

    gumagamit nga lang ako ng car batt charger after severely draining it as the charging circuitry is only designed for the smaller batt

    Thanks for sharing bro.

    I am using a 13.8V (12V) power supply to charge a "dead battery" for as long as all the cells are functional. This was the power supply I use for my HAM (rated at 25A).

    The battery in this case acts as a "voltage regulator" and so the charging.....

    good job! better yet get a hobby charger like the imax B6. i got mine, just a cheap clone, from hobbyking for something like $16. charges li-ion, nimh, lead acid, of various voltages. super useful

    or if you can afford it get an iCharger of which i have 3 now they're just so frikkin useful

    kumuha si TS ng 12volts dun sa secondary ng transformer ,tapos nilagyan kahit isang rectifier diode.pwede na...

    Ang UPS, meron talagang charger for 12 volts, so no need to connect a rectifier or diode para makapag charge, you just need to connect the charging terminal to the car battery. Yun na yun.

    Pinoy Ingenuity! Galing Sir! Ma try nga sa Genset Battery namin, nasira na kasi yung float charger nya. I believe pareho din naman yung functions nya.

    Medyo delikado ito, wala kang fuse sa secondary ng transformer. tapos payat ng wire mo, pwedeng masunog yan. if you want to do this again do it outside your house, yung battery kapag nagka-problema may chemical reaction yan na naglalabas ng dangerous gas

    Yeah, thanks for pointing dun sa wire, kaya dun sa second image, pinalitan ko na ng medyo kapareha nung wire sa loob nung UPS. Actually medyo maliit lang amperahe nung UPS for 12VDC kaya medyo matagal ang charging time and yes, thanks, its safe to do it outside the house.

    Just an update on this. Already tried the UPS on our Genset 8D battery for about 20 hours, of course it was tested away from the equipment, battery being pulled out. Prior charging, the battery had a voltage output of 12.96 only and after 20 hours of charging it was 13.89 volts already. This is considered pretty slow (charging). The UPS transformer temp had a continuous/longer operating temp, as compared to its normal operation, this is considerable as it needs to charge a whole lot bigger battery. Wire temp is normal, no high temp at all. Checked the wire current and it registers 0.3 amps only, which is very safe for its size. I will try to continuously charge this and further observe the parameters, I know this will be safe as the UPS has this trickle feature which will not over charge the battery (I hope I am correct with this ). The only negative downfall I can see here is that the UPS transformer life will be shorter, as it is stressed due to load it needs to sustain, I guess I'll just have to rely on the built in fuse in the UPS just in case. Given the outcome of the experiment, so far its a success. I've so far saved an at least 10k if I had to buy a trickle charger. Thanks for sharing Sir aioshin!

    On a side note, of course I need to disconnect the UPS from the battery during genset start-ups.

    Why not just buy Genset Trickle charger? 10K lang naman yun...? And will last for 10 years na... less hassle and hindi ka na mag iisip na hindi tatakbo genset mo when needed...

    buying is always the easier option.
    but i admire those who manage to successfully adapt what they already have, sitting around in the house, for something else than what it was originally designed for.
    of course, safety is always an issue, but if one knows what one is doing...

    Yes given its 10k only it is surely logical. But we do have plenty of defective UPS such as what I used as stated above. Sustainability (recycling) na din than just dumping them. Heck we survived 5 years without a trickle charger, just plain old ordinary charger which needs to be closely monitored until the battery was completely charged up. This recycling not only helped the environment on another waste to be dumped, but has provided us more convenience than using an ordinary charger... without spending on anything! Cheers!

    +1 on this dr. d. And yes you have to know what you're doing. Also before doing this, you have to do trials in a safe environment before the actual installations. Hey, does I sound like a salesman of aioshin's idea? Thanks again for the shared ingenuity!

    Pede mo lagyan relay ung starter signal and alternator output para mag off ups supply while cranking and running genset.
