    hi,

i am still in the process of learning and troubleshooting my own car and i just wanted to ask this about the distributor and spark plugs...

the distributor that i am using does not have an external coil. it DOES NOT have a contact point inside as well. the ignition coil is inside the distributor housing. what i have inside the distributor housing is an igniter and a pick up coil (hall effect).

    - dumb question, how does the igniter in the distributor work?
    - how would you know if you have a weak spark?
    - is this a myth or fact, a spark test should show a bluish white spark and NOT a yellow/orange spark? yung yellow/orange spark daw ang weak spark.
    - given that i have a good set of hiten and new plugs, what do i have to replace in the distributor?

nice, now i get it, an igniter is an electronic version of a contact point. its basically a switch to the primary coil that closes when the pickup coil is passed by the signal rotor. thanks!

i'll be taking a look at this maybe this weekend

Not much info. Distributor for what? Get a new one not surplus, quote prices in your local parts store or the car dealership in the parts departments. Good luck.

most have magnetic pickups which detect the rotation of the rotor.
