I've heard some trick of placing the screw driver's tip at the center of the alternator and if it get magnetized then they say that it is functioning . . . not sure though if that is true but induction might really generate some electromagnet.
^ true, the screwdriver must be placed in the positive output of the alternator. IMO removing negative battery pole is risky way of checking alternator and not adviseable on engines with onboard computer. Sa mga diesel engines at carb ok lang to. The most accurate way of checking is to use Voltmeter-reading must be above 13.5VDC (loaded or unloaded) and should not have AC component.
kung 13 to 14 pa po yung reading ng voltmeter, meaning po ba nun na ok pa yung battery at alternator ko po??

If yes, then should be okay.... However, some batteries when they become old will not retain the charge long enough.... It's not totally caught by this test....

If youre referring to the alternator, 13.5V to 14V is a good indicator. If youre referring to the battery, voltage is not the accurate indicator, its the current output. You can DIY checking using several 100Watt bulb and timing the discharge rate and monitoring with Voltmeter. Check if there are visible bubbles inside the cells,excessive bubbles means worn plates.. Best if you can bring it to battery shop, they have the appropriate equipment to check if battery is still producing the right ampereage.kasi pinacharge ko lang battery ko for 2hrs. sa mga modern vehicle systems marami nang modules na pwedeng maapektuhan pag nag spike ang alternator ( maaring masira ang module)
pag diy kailangan nyo volt meter
* idle ( without load)= around 13v- 14.8 v okey yan
full load ( head lights ,A/C defoggers , radio ON ) at least 13v * idle ,ok
