The Flying Cars Are Coming … To the New York Auto Show

    By Jason Paur
    April 2, 2012 |5:06 pm

There’s a flying car coming to the New York International Auto Show this week. The Terrafugia Transition is a two-seat airplane with foldable wings, four wheels and turn signals. Over the past few years the Massachusetts company has called its creation a “roadable aircraft” and lately, a “street legal airplane.” But ahead of the Transition’s first appearance at an auto show, it’s perhaps more appropriate to simply call it what it is: a flying car.... Not quite accurate. The Terrafugia is more of a "road-legal airplane".

Let's face it... owners are not going to buy Terrafugias to commute every day by driving thirty kilometers to the nearest airport and flying over a hundred kilometers to work... they're going to buy it as a toy... an oddity. It's rubbish as a car, with all that bodywork hanging off the back of a subcompact carrying just two people.

This thing has been in development for years. Glad to see it's finally going commercial, but it's hard to see it becoming a widespread transport solution.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

currently too ambitious for civilian use but the concept realisation may play well with darpa's tactical flying suv project (see avx aircraft co).
they share basic idea even if some requirements/ applications differ

i think the flying car itself is an old news.. its test "flight" revived it.

    edit:

    eto rival niyan, PAL-V

PAL-V Flying Car makes first test flight

For nearly 100 years, people all over the world have imagined what it would be like if vehicles could fly. The Dutch PAL-V company has created a vehicle geared to turn your imagination into reality.
PAL-V announces the first series of test flights for their flying car, also named PAL-V, which stands for Personal Air and Land Vehicle, were successful.
The PAL-V conducted numerous test flights over the last two weeks at the Gilze Rijen Airport located in the Netherlands. Robert Dingemanse, PAL-V CEO and co-founder stated, "We have started the next phase already, from engineering prototypes to the market."
The PAL-V is a three-wheel gas-powered vehicle, but the company plans to create a biodiesel version of the vehicle as well. While traveling on the ground, the PAL-V can reach a speed of 110 miles per hour. The air speed matches the 110 mile per hour range and is driven by a rear propeller, performing as a gyrocopter, which is stabilized by an unpowered top rotor.
The PAL-V can fly a distance of 315 miles or drive 750 miles on land using one tank of gas. It takes around 540 feet of land, either grass or pavement, to take off and land the vehicle.
Government officials in the United States and Europe are currently preparing for an increase in air traffic through the use of PAL-Vs, and the company is currently using a government funded program to create the 'digital freeway' infrastructure design to provide safe traveling with the PAL-V through GPS technology.
PAL-V stated that 20 – 30 hours of practice is required to obtain a license to drive the new vehicle, which they plan to offer to customers around the world by 2014 for a price of $266,480.

pero wait pag may flying car na kailangan pang magaral ng pagpipiloto ayun lang..

mahirap mag own ng flying car.

na curious ako kung may mga traffic signs pa sa ere pagdating ng araw ahaha.

You need to have driver's license and Pilot's license at the same time to operate that.

that'll be the day of nightmare for air traffic controls. I see it as a hobby cars, toys for the rich. and flights will be limited to open provincial roads and would need to fly below jet liners altitude. and being a pilot isn't as easy as driving a car.

naisip ko na tamang design equipment so man can fly safely.

It shoud be like yung posture ni magneto(xmen). Parang nagmemeditate lang and not so fast. Controlled and Balance.

Hindi pwede yung superman na taas kamay. Too aggressive.

Pinanuod ko kasi ulit days of future past. Habang tumatagal nagugustuhan ko na si magneto.

Video: Filipino inventor takes 'flying car' for successful test flight
    Web Report
Filed on September 14, 2018 | Last updated on September 14, 2018 at 04.32 pm

It's a flying car type of vehicle that uses drone technology.

After six years of working on his 'Ultralight Aircraft', a Filipino man conducted the first successful test flight of his homemade flying car. Kyxz Mendoza of Quezon City was elated to see his invention 25 feet off the ground. He shared a video of the breakthrough ion social media.

He said the 'Ultralight Aircraft' uses drone-style multi-copter technology to attain flight.

"We've been having bad weather so it took us a while after our deadline. But after two months of tuning, here it is. I hope everyone will give this vehicle a positive reaction. This was only a dream for us five years ago," UPI quoted Mendoza as saying. After the successful maiden flight, the inventor is now seeking investors to mass-produce the vehicles.

''It's like a drone car," Mendoza said. "I wanted it to be a sports car, a flying Lamborghini, maybe. The design was a trial and error process. Some materials burned up on use. Other materials didn't quite work,'' he added.

"flying car" as a cheaper alternative to helicopters. yes. would be useful in delivering relief. transporting the injured. etc

but for commuting purposes to be used by the thousands. nope

Madami rin siguro magiging kamote Driver ng Flying car. Unless sobrang prohibitive ang price.

But who knows. I'm sure the people of yesteryear were laughing when pioneers said the horse-driven wagon will be replaced by machines. Look at what we have now.

those who laughed back then simply didn't have the imagination.

the flying car is already technically feasible. but there are a lot of things going against it:

    1) noise. we don't have the tech to cut down the noise

    2) lots of wind. simple physics. to generate lift you need to suck air then push it down hard. or burn fuel like in jet/rocket. we simply don't have the sci-fi style levitation technology yet

solve those 2 problems and flying car becomes viable. but should be computer controlled. not manually flown by idiot humans

They should make sure it doesn't stall in mid air.

naisip ko lang over the weekend...

kung magkaroon ng "flying car" na accessible and affordable, dadami sya... Then magkakaroon ng "flight path" sa itaas natin (di naman pwedeng bara bara sila sa taas)

Right now, kapag natraffic tayo, tingin sa taas tapos "Diyos ko, kelan ako makaka uwi"
Kapag madami ng flying car, traffic sa baba tapos pag tingin mo sa taas, traffic din

    Impossible siguro magka flying cars.

Sa daan pa nga lang na may designated driving zone and rules nagkakagulo na. How much more pag nasa himpapawid na? hehe
