September 5th, 2009 12:56 AM #41You use a transmission just like regular cars, in fact you can use any transmission, or trans axle or for that matter. You can do direct drive but that would be inefficient. There is an interesting problem with motors is that starting is the most damaging to itself, there is an overshoot on voltage and current, more than 100% power for one instant, you also do not want the motor to work hard giving it shorter life. Working hard for electric means current and not voltage or HP.
Voltage will be constant except for the instant it turned on.
As soon as the motor touches the road it will draw current, the heavier the load the more current it will draw, the less life batteries will have and like I said the motor will not last as well.

Looks fine... nothing outstanding. Typical 2 seat design electric car.
The Mitsubishi Miev looks better... seen the car on the road in new Zealand.

wishful thinking
sana po mag mura ang mga electric cars na binebenta dito sa atin...pataas nanaman po ang ang presyo ng fuel po.....

The thing is, even if the electric car was "cheaper", would the filipinos buy it in the volume that would justify a local dealership? Given the electric car's shortcomings, it will still be a long way off.
Example, driving within Metro Manila, you will probably turn on the aircon and radio. Both consumes power from the battery pack. The car's normal 80 to 90 kilometer range gets cut down to maybe 60 km. And then going home at night would require the headlights turned on which reduces the range further to around 40km on a single charge.
Locally, our best option would be to go hybrid cars or alternative fuel cars. Right now, Auto-LPG is currently available in the metro and has been a practical solution for many people NOW. Don't have to wait for anything else to happen to save money on fuel.
So, is it wishful thinking or decisive action?

sir ghosthunter
kamusta po at tanong na din po kung natuloy po yung inyong nabanggit before......
Some time back I was thinking of developing a hybrid car and the platform of choice I thought of then was the Corolla AE89 because it was a simple platform, lightweight, it's plentiful and cheap to buy.
IIRC they're with AVID. The reported numbers in the TG article are from CAMPI.
