Wow di pala natuloy. So extinct na ba ang Hummer? How about Geely, did the purchase of Volvo come through? They don't need to copy cars naman, they could just buy out existing car companies.

Yes, development and production of Volvo will still be in europe (chinese made Volvo models are supposedly for the chinese market).
For now Ford will continue to supply engines, stamping systems and other components to Volvo.

no question about durability, japanese cars are more reliable, but come to think of it, how come bus operators nowadays are switching to chinese bus?

because with china the ROI will take them only 2 years, double that if japan. tried and tested na yan which means reliable din ang engine, parts are also available naman.

I really admire the South Koreans with the things they do, their mentality, and the effort they put into their work. Comparing them to the Chinese brands are like comparing two students doing a project. The Korean brands are represented by the hardworking student who, though doesn't have many resources, asks for help and materials from other good students (Japanese brands) to attain improvement. The Chinese brands, on the other hand, can be represented by a rich but lazy student who steals the ideas of the other students. When he got home, he wasn't able to thoroughly replicate the complicated ideas so he copied the outer shell but used inferior materials and for those parts he couldn't copy, he used something else altogether (engine).

I think we must not compare the product of Japanese, the Koreans, and the Chinese... I feel we must compare ourselves, our nation to them.

I have a deep respect to China based on my experiences. I always travel to china and can say more about them not based on what i heard and read or watched but because I immersed myself there. Everytime I am in china I feel that a once a chaotic nation can rise into power and be great if gugustuhin. Something that each pinoy is dreaming of para sa bansa natin.

I admire how the big companies in the world cannot complain much on china copying their products. And to my surprise, most of the big automotive companies being copied by china has stake or ownership in those companies that copy them. In china, they have the culture na pag ang isang bagay na nadiscover or ginawa mo at ginaya ng iba you should be proud of it dahil maganda ng product mo.. still they use this principle sa mga products nila and sa mga cars.

I think it's wrong comparing the current generation of Chinese cars to the likes of the Besta, Pride CD5, etc. These cars are already Korean creations, not outright copies. The Chinese car industry is still very much in its infancy. They are just receiving much more publicity.

What worries me is that China doesn't need to penetrate the US to be a big manufacturer, particularly because China has enough home market. This will impede their development as they can be lazy without competition.

In Hawaii and Guam you can see brand names such as Geely, Chery and some other china made. These places are US soils with Federal standard on vehicles.

China can block cars of US to enter their market easily if chinese cars cannot be sold in USA. I think the reason why China is not yet getting their cars abroad aggresively is that the domestic demand is too big to fulfill. I read an article here in china in a newspaper that end of this year, 17M units of vehicle is targeted to be sold in China making China as the biggest automotive market replacing USA.

The Besta and Pride CD5 are Mazda based models, they were built under license (with permission).

These Korean companies learned from somewhere, they didin't just steal like most Chinese companies.
I think thats the most important thing.
Kia - Mazda
Daewoo - GM
Hyundai - Ford, then Mitsubishi
Ssangyong - Mercedes

When you drive a Kia Pride CD5, you know you're driving Kia's official licensed version of the Mazda 121.
When you drive a Chery QQ, you know you're driving a knock-off/copy of a Chevy Spark/ Daewoo Matiz.

Actually they do, they just can't win against the Chinese company copying their products.
I even read about a Japanese artist that lost a case when he tried to sue the chinese company that was using his characters.

Sure, China is big, wealthy and powerful. But is that all that they can do. It took Korea only a short while to reach their current status wherein they are now making their own designs and manufacturing their own engines and transmissions, and it is worth noting that at the time they started, they didn't have much cash. Now, compare China to the country they are picking on- Taiwan. They are a dimunitive country, with financial capabilities much less than Japan, China and Korea. Look at their Luxgen 7 MPV. Collaboration with Germany produced an excellent car with a 2.2 liter turbocharged gasoline engine, good styling made by their very own, iDrive like driving interface... What can you say?

Sir I beg to differ, most of the bus company owners I've talked to have complained consistently about the frequency and high cost of maintenance of their chinese units. Most of the time they complain about consumable parts like clutch and brake linings. Running cost is definitely much higher than their japanese counterparts and will definitely overtake any savings made on the purchase price.

I totally hope NOT sir. that's what you get when you outsource your factories in china. they have ways to copy. these products are cheap and blatant disrespect for the rights of the original designers who painstakingly worked hard to come up with the original design.
