If they gonna resuce Thai operations eh di lalo pahurapan piyesa dito. Remember they closed the plant in indonesia which also discontinued the 2 year old Spin.

Ih well. Even if for some miracle the Chevy execs here in the Phils, decides to cuthroat the PPV market as affordable or chesper than MUX, I guesx it's too late na din coz Thailand is being streamlined.

Oo nga, i wonder how the current owners of the Chevrolet Trailblazer would feel that 3-5 years from now, halos zero tech anf spare parts support ang current cars nila. It's like a idsposable camerz ang labas ng trucks nila. Yeah better ditch it now. Currently the used market of traiblazer has the lowest value iwith 800-900k with model year 2015.

This is synonomous to a bank run if they all panic and sell.

I think the reason Isuzu partnered with Mazda(to develop the next gen dmax/bt50) is because Chevrolet(Gm) did plan to slowly exit the asean market.

Back in 2015 it was only about the closure of GM's Indonesian plant that manufactures the Chevy Spin MPV and GM Thailand ending production of the Sonic subcompact for South East Asia, now more have been added to the list including the recent sale of GM's European arm (Opel/Vauxhall) to "Groupe PSA" (Peugeot-Citroën).


GM's Thai operations will probably survive because it also supplies SUVs and Pickups to Australia where they are rebadged as Holdens.

if your title were "Is it time to ditch Chevrolet?" that would point to a healthy discussion but your title is imposing to ditch Chevrolet based on your personal opinion. Anyway, that is just my opinion for discussion sake =)

Closing a factory doesn't necessarily means its out of business, Intel closed their factory here in PH, guess what, they are still going strong with a positive stock market value.

it is just like buying a fish. you have to lose money to make money out of the fish you bought.

I wouldn't think of resale value because people who usually buy brand new cars, keep it for like 3-5 years or more, I would be happy to sell a car i bought for 600k for 60k after 10 years
i think second hand car here in PH is a bit expensive =)

the non-astute buyer will probably buy the used car selling at a low price. i once bought a 70s ford escort selling at a price lower than comparative cars, then. had i asked myself that question, i probably would have shied away from the car. but as i was young and in-experienced... sourcing spare parts for it proved to be a very enlightening experience.

pricing of new cars is determined by how much the manufacturer spent in manufacturing it and in bringing it over, and how much they think the buying public is willing to buy it for.

Yes you can source parts online, but the question is how long does it take to get the parts to you and how expensive will it be. Considering it will probably be shipped from outside the country include the hassle of going through customs just to get it. So it's really something to consider.

I guess the question is will they stop selling cars here in the Philippines? Coz if not then it shouldn't matter where they source the units and the parts from as long as they offer the usual warranty and support for released vehicles.

but they do! seller's resale value is buyer's acquisition value.
seasoned used car buyers will haggle to death. amateur buyers will haggle very half-heartedly, if at all.
purchase by internet? why buy something, sight unseen, with considerable waiting time, if it is easily available and return-able, over the counter? i own a very popular japanese brand car. and it would be a very bad day if i looked for a part and strike out with three auto parts stores.
my escort car was purchased by me some years after ford pulled out of the market. i would walk the entire row of auto parts stores, and not find the part i wanted. and if i did, i would have to buy the entire assembly, including parts that i did not need, at horrendous price. inggit na inggit ako sa mga hapon na kotse. it's the price of maintaining a cheaply-acquired orphan car!

They wont ask for a resale value but they have a resale value at the back of their minds for later disposal. Kaya nga sila maghaggle to the max eh.
