Yup... saw it in Alabang (I THINK, baka QC naman...)

Was a black Optra, factory body kit (skirts, trunk lip spoiler, etc...), and it had those mean black grille inserts like you'd see on a Civic RS, except walang logo... three piece pa rin... looks 100% better, IMHO, and it's the only Optra I've seen that I wouldn't call ugly to its face...

    :D

(The rest are like bar girls... nice a$$es, pero when they turn around... ngiiiieeee!!!!

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

i have an optra wagon (SS)
Almost a year old, never had any problems with it. The car is pretty reliable at least for me. My only complain is the gas consumption. My truck is more efficient than it is. I still like though. It's my everyday battle car.

i think turbo charging the engine is a lot better than trying to swap it with 1.8L engine.

is there a shop here in the Philippines which offers engine modifications for Optra?

Chevrolet Optra Magnum TCDi diesel launched!
GM lines up Skoda Octavia in its sights as it launches the diesel Optra Magnum.

Chevrolet Optra Magnum, the diesel variant of Chevrolet Optra was launched on Saturday. The Optra Magnum comes in three variants - and is priced in the range of Rs 8.74 lakh to Rs 9.99 lakh. The Optra Magnum has a 2-litre turbocharged common rail direct injection diesel engine (TCDi, GM calls it). Genereal Motors believes the Optra Magnum's price will make it attractive to customers. The car delivers 120 bhp of max power.

    Interiors

The Chevrolet Optra Magnum has leather wrapped around its steering wheel, seats and gear knob. The colours are two-tone beige. It has all new 2 DIN CD MP3 and cassette player, and 360- degree air vents for surround cooling effect.

The tilt steering and additional lumbar support add to the car's comfort. Even back seats come with a 60:40 split for optimum use of space. There are well-thought additions like a mobile phone holder. The NVH has also been improved in the Chevrolet Optra Magnum diesel for the best drive.

    Exteriors

The car has almond shaped head lamps, borrowed from the Chevrolet-SRV hatch-back, which really makes the Chevrolet Optra Magnum stand out from the rest of the pack. The new chrome alloy wheels and special chrome plated door handles are standard in the Optra Magnum. And then there is that loud grille, all chrome and loud and definitely aggressive. The aggresive forward posture of the Chevrolet Optra Magnum complements its aerodynamic design.

    Safety

ABS system with XPRO protection ensures prompt braking. Impact-proof bumper and dual air bags add to the Optra Magnum's safety.

The Chevrolet Optra Magnum comes in three variants: 2.0 MAX TCDi, 2.0 LS TCDi and 2.0 LT TCDi. There is no automatic transmission yet. Power windows, power steering, central locking, rear window defogger and cooled glove box are standard across all Magnums.

According to GM India president and MD Rajeev Chaba, the Chevrolet Optra Magnum diesel has been launched in India after introducing the diesel model in Europe and Korea.

With the Magnum, GM plans to take the more expensive Skoda Octavia in the luxury segment. Till now, GM India has just one diesel model - the Tavera. The company believes there is more demand in the demand in the diesel car market; Skoda Octavia has ruled the high-end diesel car market in India since launch; the Chevrolet Optra Magnum wants to dethrone the Indian diesel leader. The Magnum is its GM's first attempt to tap India's luxury disel car market.

The Chevrolet Optra Magnum is GM's second car launch this year. A couple of months back, it launched the Chevrolet Spark, the reborn Daewoo Matiz. Matiz vanished with the collapse of Daewoo Motor. GM, which took over Daewoo has relaunched the Matiz in India as Chevrolet Spark after a log gap.

According to Anisha Motwani, director (marketing), GM India, the company has been able to achieve robust growth even as the industry is undergoing a slowdown. This year GM is aiming to sell 66,000 units as compared to 38,800 last year. A lot of these sales wil come from the small car Spark.

too bad wala pa dito sa atin, kailan kaya magkaroon dito? kagagaling ko lang sa Chevrolet Libis and asked them about the diesel variant ng optra, wala sila alam... ang alam lang nila iyun captiva na diesel...

this is the link of the optra sold as the suzuki forenza...

    http://www.suzukiauto.com/sr_04/forenza/

i test drove an automatic optra unit this morning and it drives pretty well, i just have the doubts nang mga parts na masisira in the long run. unlike a toyota where you can almost buy parts from a sari-sari store.

im still studying the other cars on the same class trying to compare the best for its worth.

help naman to weigh them. thanks!

the arguments are helping me so keep it coming!

got my chevy optra last december 16, 2003, the day after i got my optra, i brought it back to the casa because there were wierd noise coming from the engine when i put it on D and step on the brakes, i brought the car 4 times to the casa before they got the problem fixed, then i noticed that i only got 5km+/liter on my optra when in fact, the sales agent told me that the fuel consumption for optra on city driving is 8km/l, is 5km+/l normal for a 1.6L car? even our gen2 crv can go for 6km/l, so i brought it back to the casa, until now, they haven't fixed this, every time i step on the brakes, i hear some wierd noise, they fix this by replacing the brake pads, then, the engine starts to knock, the car hesitates when running in cold start, vibrates enormously, they blame this on me for putting in unleaded fuel and they said i should drain the fuel tank and put higher octane velocity, talk about fuel efficient cars, then, after draining the fuel trunk, there's still engine knock, enormous vibration and still hesitates during cold starts(this didn't happen when i just got the car), then, i noticed recently that there's a ticking sound in the engine when in idle, and rpm drops and rise non-stop, the steeing wheel squeaks every time i turn it, and road seems more noisier, very time i go through rough roads, there are wierd noises coming from the front ride side, and there are rattles that they haven't fixed since the time i got it from them, wipers don't work very well, it would clean the windshield properly. is there a chance that GM would buy this piece of junk back?? i been to the casa for countless times and so far, they haven't fix most of the problems i had with my car, pls give me some advice, if there are people connected with GM in this forum, pls help me, thanks!!

    hotshots,

youre from cebu di ba?.. try to write the main GM office about the situation and then kung wala pa rin.. have your lawyer write to them..) kasi yung ang advice sa akin nung lawyer namin who assisted his other client with a lemon volvo unit... napalitan na yung car niya ng bago, may cash pa!!! (kinasuhan ata nila then nag settle ang volvo) ewan lang natin kung paano maghandle ang gm, pero klaro naman na factory defect iyan eh kaya malakas ang kaso mo..

HAy, naku... BULLSHIT ang ganuun... the optra is a Daewoo 1.6 that puts out only 110 bhp. There is NO WAY IN HELL A 1.6 WOULD START TO KNOCK ON 93 Octane Unleaded, not unless it a was 200hp turbo. Heck, even EVOs can take unleaded, and they should be more knock-prone (tuned for higher octane gas). Engine knock and vibration are a warranty-covered defect. There is no way it cannot be covered unless you put diesel in. I suggest you contact the main office ASAP and get on their case.

this help your decision making re the optra. first, optra is not a re-badge vehicle by chevy, mazda lynx ang re-badge ng ford at face out na ang lynx inuubos na lang ang mga natitirang units at alam ng lahat na pag inuubos ang mga natitira napagpilian na un lamon car pa nga eh.anyway optra is a truly world class sedan manufactured by GM, italian designed, british tuned, german engineered car. year 1997 GM bought the assets of deawoo in terms of car manufacturing, nowadays, deawoo is concentrated im producing appliances ang heavy machineries. the reason why there's a Gm deawoo in korea is because korea has this close door policy that they only intend to purchase their own product, ibig sabihin yan, bibili lang sila ng sarili nilang gawa kaya pag tinanggal mo ang "deawoo" sa GM Deawoo walang bibili ng optra sa korea. thats why kia, hyundai, daewoo (now GM daewoo) are all korea and no other brands.bakit my ford ba dun, my honda b dun? What GM did was they penetrate the market in korea. second, optra was built and manufactured in GM Thailand with 100%pure american quallity and standards, aside from GM china,it is clearly that GM has this worldwide commitment globally not only in US, Europe, Autralia but also in Asia. the articles from C magazines re the optra actually are based all in facts, it was written by car enthusiasts sharing their opinion to the market. take their advices, if not satisfied visit chevrolet pasig for further clarifications. parts? no problem. GM are giving it for free for 2 years or 30,000km w/c ever comes first (aftersales service/ periodic maintenance service-that's parts and labor) imagine yung savings mo pag dating sa aftersales, how convenient diba, just bring your car in the casa(casa maintained) tapos pag labas mo wala kang babayaran. and with the warranty of 3years or 100000km w/c ever comes first grabe ang security mo ang ganda diba, wala kang babayaran even a single cent. kung mahal ang parts namin, hindi namin ibibigay ng libre yan sa mga 3,890 owners ng optra as of today and we're talking of genuine parts. Features of the optra ay napakadami, if your going to compare it spec by spec s competitors nya panalo ang optra with that price range, binusog natin ung car ng mga features with that prices range. I can give you a presentation baka makatulong s pag decide nyo. para sa my mga problems and concerns optra owners, if you have problems on your optra units dalin nyo sa chevy pasig aayusin lahat yan. what? what did you say? suzuki verona?its not verona, its "suzuki forenza". kaw naman nag compare ka pa ng warranty sa optra, bakit ano b pinagmamalaki mo ung 5 years warranty ng lynx mo? i dont think so.... ilagay ko lang sa evaluation na wear and tear and cause ng sira nung parts.. wala kana, void na ung warranty mo. sayang lang nagbayad ka ng extension. practicallity, mahirap atang ma-aprobahan sa warranty ang isang car (regular or severe use) ng 5 years. kung "geniune parts" ang pag uusapan natin,s optra wala kang binabayaran pag aftersales for 2 years or 30000km, eh ung s lynx mo replacement na nga ang linalagay mo nagbabayad kapa, eh di ikaw din ang talo quality zero.

    hey Hotshots,

just like you had experienced fuel lock with my 11 mo.old OPTRA, branded as "TOPE." Got this thing when I downgraded my fuel from XCS to UNLEADED. After a lot of works done at JUNO CARS, SHAW such as:
    1. change on spark plugs
    2. fuel drain
    3. battery replacement

I decided to bring it to where I bought it, GM Makati. Based from few cases, fuel lock was caused by the fuel we load to our car. Their advise was to upgrade the fuel being loaded to a higher octane. That was the solution they reco to optras having experience fuel lock. With 2-3 full tanks, hopefully the TOPE will vanish.

Regarding the unsatisfying fuel consumption, most likely, this is brought about by the fuel lock. Will keep you informed once I isolate my fuel lock concern.

    cheers,
    fox
