Well, there's already an answer for the fuel consumption thing... as per batang raon's suggestions.

I'm finding the station wagon version very appealing. I've seen it twice now at motorshow displays, and the amount of interior room is impressive. And it's supposed to have the reprogrammed engine already. (This is the word from GM).

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

    My average fuel consumption:

    0-1,000kms 6 kms/liter
    1,001-3,000 kms 11 kms/liter

I'm probably extending my fuel because I'm always on SLEX and C-5 on my way to work and back, and I go home past rush hour so I only encounter traffic half of time.
But I also want to believe that I'm going past 10kms per liter because of Petron Xtra Unleaded and owned the newer and improved batch of Optras.

The Optra is really not such a bad car except for its fuel economy woes. The problem is buyers in this price range are fuel consious wherein lies the problem. I hope to get the new reprogramed ECU on my next tune up. That's if i don't sell it and buy a honda jazz first. hehehe

This is probably an issue regarding a very specific or early batch of Optras. It's kind of weird, I was talking to a guy from C! earlier and he says his brother doesn't have the problem either, while another owner who complained of 4 km/l says that his A/T Corolla gets 8-9 km/l in the same conditions.

It would be interesting to know when the owners of "guzzlers" bought their Optras. And it should be a recall or at the very least, free service for owners.

The Optra moves two or three notches higher on my recommend list if this is true and if new units all have the reflash and new plugs.
I bought mine sir on 2004. In between the 2003 and 2005 model. So in short, I got a 2003 model. Free ung checkup and yes, those Optras released by dealers with Singapore program no longer need it. Compare it to your computer, if you're running Windows XP Pro, you don't need to install again Windows XP Pro, unless you're having problems. Otherwise, it's just like you went to North Edsa for no apparrent reason. =D
To be better off, in case there would be anyone planning to buy an Optra, it would be of your best interest to ask the service advisors at the dealer you're gonna negotiate with about what program do they install on their brand new units. You could ask their salesman but if you ask me, I'm better off asking their service advisors instead. =D

May update na po over at the workshop. First who checked it out is sir niky. =D

Aba meron na palang taxi na optra

Also, this car will never match up in terms of speed against Japanese cars in the same class, I've tried racing Altises, Civics and 323s at C-5 and SLEX, and I got beat everytime!
That because of its 1,225 kg curb weight on a 110 hp..Top Speed of my stock optra is 180km/h(I think the optra can reach 200km/h) thats only from filinvest going to sucat exit.I'm racing against a vtec3 with modified internals..hehe..I also did some cornering doing over 70-80km/h. I also race against a 323 familia and another vtec3 and I've won because they both made a mistake on overtaking. I was just lucky and I'm gonna miss those days I had that optra..heheh

How much gas did you consume on those races?
I always reach the gas tank only up to 1/2.But my gas during that time was more than 1/2...

same tayo. i never seem to have a full tank in my Optra.

The Optra's handling is really quite good. Part of my fuel saving technique is running the corners at higher speeds that normal and the Optras handling is remarkable. i wouldn't be doing this if the Optra didn't have such good handling in the corners.

chuad ang optra ay 5,800rpm * 110hp pala yun on a 1,225 kg curb weight ibig sabihin kaya pa basta wala pa sa redline..hehe..

Considering the price of the Optra Wagon A/T and cheapest Tucson A/T variant is not far off, the Optra starts to make good sense especially with its standard ABS and Airbag among other features not found on the Tucson.

200km/h nga lang limit nito on stock. =D

Good thing I got the optra 1.8LT. Good thing nakakuha ako hehe...
