i know we currently have a robust equities market but this is a bit of a pleasant surprise. what say you?
not surprising coz the top performers are mostly emerging markets that were sold off when the Fed began tapering QE

that's when US 10Y yield rose to 3%

then as the 10Y yield fell back down hot money went back to EM

    look at the correlation:

can't find Borsa Istanbul so i'm using the etf TUR to represent Turkey stocks

    at no. 71 is Japan

remember the hottest trade last year (late 2012 going into 2013) is short yen long nikkei -- selling the yen against the dollar and buying Japanese stocks

if you went long USDJPY and bought EWJ (the ETF that tracks Japanese equities) going into 2013 look at how you did

    not bad for #71

Not only that.. their 2012 performance was simply outstanding once the Abenomics kicked in.

the government uses a “basket” of goods and services consumed by a typical family to measure inflation

rising food prices were offset by decline in prices of other items in the basket which explains the 4.4% number

Inflation slows to 4.4% in June | Business, News, The Philippine Star | philstar.com
According to commodity group, the food and non-alcoholic drinks index accelerated to 7.4 percent in June from 6.7 percent in May, while the furnishing and household equipment index climbed to 2.6 percent from 2.5 percent.

The education index also rose to five percent last month from 4.7 percent in May.

These increases were tempered by the decline in the alcoholic beverages and tobacco index to 3.7 percent from four percent, and a slide in the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels index to 2.3 percent from 3.7 percent.

The transport index also went down to 1.3 percent from 1.5 percent, while the recreation and culture index slowed down to 1.2 percent from 2.3 percent.

Meanwhile, the clothing and footwear (3.4 percent), the health (three percent), the communication (0.1 percent), and the restaurant and miscellaneous (1.9 percent) indices remained steady in June from the previous month.
aside from food, the recent increase in fuel prices and transport fare should drive inflation higher

maybe that will be seen in the July report

if July inflation number doesnt rise that could mean the economy is slowing (rising food, fuel, transport prices being offset by falling prices of non-essentials -- meaning consumers are cutting back on wants so they can afford needs)

Last night’s Fed minutes summary: as long as the U.S. economy stays on track the Federal Reserve will do too. QE is seen to end in October but will depend on data. The Fed was not overly joyous with the falling unemployment rate and was not worried about inflation. The U.S. dollar remained weak as investors maintained bets that the end of QE does not mean rate hikes will immediately follow. The only hope for the dollar is hawkish noises from the Fed which we might get in Q4. Expectations of when the Fed will raise rates vary from Q1 2015 to Q2 2016.

    fear originated from Portugal

Portugal suspends trading in Banco Espirito Santo shares: DJ
Shares in one of Portugal's leading financial institutions, Banco Espirito Santo, were suspended from trading on Thursday after dropping another 17 percent for a total decline in value of 32 percent this week, Dow Jones reported.

Portugal's main stock index dropped on the news, and Dow Jones said the bank's troubles have led to cancelled bond sales and stock market declines across the European continent.
feels like eurocrisis all over again

the israeli-hammas conflict is escalating badly and that doesn't bode well for everyone

the isis/isil juggernaut is currently percolating too in iraq w/ iran possibly getting ready to get involved in the cesspool. no good news coming from that region of the middle east and it's making people antsy too
