^ palagay ko it's because dali stores are usually clustered w/ 7-11, all day , and alfa mart joints . i've observed na - at least dito sa amin - they're all in walking distance of one another. halos magkatabi pa nga minsan.

so sila - sila overlapping ang mga customers kaya kelangan pa-bonggahan ng promos, i suppose. mas lalo na iyong mga traditionally pricier convenience shops, kelangan na maki - sabayan maski 24/7 ang operations nila.

Yup. I rarely go to convenience stores. There's a 711 across my old office and I only go there when I am craving for Siopao Convenience stores are stressful for me because there's just too much items in a small space. I like Dali because it's so relaxing to shop there. It really does NOT feel like a budget store at all.

Yung local chips sa Dali are much cheaper and even their alcohol daw. Even their meat is good! May nabasa ako they sell crispy pata meat pero never ko naabutan.

That's probably why their staff are so friendly. If only I had the experience, I'd apply in Dali talaga hehe.

“Maayos at tapat po magbayad and DALI,” says Rick, an assistant store manager. “Kumpleto ang benefits. At kung masipag at maayos ang trabaho mabilis po mag promote basta may opening.”

Rick, 25, said his monthly salary of P30,000 is higher than what other employers would pay for a similar job. He joined DALI in 2020 after losing his job as a crew in a chicken barbecue chain, Mang Inasal, due to the pandemic.

Metro Manila has over a million minimum wage earners, but more than 800,000 workers are paid below the minimum, as reported by the labor group Partido Manggagawa in January 2022. They cited October 2020 data from the Philippine Statistics Authority.

The landscape is even bleaker nationwide, with 2.4 million minimum wage earners and 8 million workers paid below the minimum, as stated by the leftist labor group at that time.”

Minimum wages in Manila increased to P610 a day in 2023 from P570 previously. The daily minimum wage in other parts of the Philippines is lower than in the capital.

The Philippines is listed among the 32 countries by Deed.com, an online portal providing human resources services, as having minimum wages below $500 per month.

The labor dynamics in the Philippines have led to the hiring of employees under 6-month contracts rather than as regular employees, resulting in exploitation, according to a report on labor contractualization by Vice World News.

Around 24.3% of Philippine laborers are contractual, and most belong to the poorest and least educated, according to the report. Even college graduates accept contractualization given the high unemployment and underemployment.

“Contractual employees don’t receive benefits that regular employees are legally entitled to, such as medical insurance, paid leave, and job security. Many employers avoid regularizing employees to save costs, keeping them for only five months to circumvent the law that mandates regularization for those continuing work after a six-month probationary period. The law is also circumvented by outsourcing workers through an agency.

At DALI, even trainees and part-timers receive compensation higher than the minimum, as shared by Mark, a store manager in a Paranaque outlet.

Mark, a store manager at 7-11 for seven years, moved to DALI because it pays at least 50% more than his previous employer, treats people better, and offers better career advancement opportunities.

Many of DALI’s store employees are from SM, who moved to the hard discount retailer upon hearing of its hiring policy. Even though its store staff, all the way to the store manager, must handle various tasks, from helping the driver with deliveries to restocking the shelves, according to Harold Ramos, 30, a manager in DALI’s Pasig operations.

“Siguro abot kalahati ang galing sa SM,” says Ramos, while manning the cash register at DALI’s 651st store that opened Dec. 22. “All around ang trabaho pero mas mabilis at malaki ang pagkakataong umasenso,” adds Ramos, who ended a six-year career at Alfamart, a mini grocer of SM, to join DALI in 2021.

Rona, an assistant store manager at one of DALI’s outlets, shares the same sentiment. She quit SM Supermarket last year, which paid her higher than the minimum for her job as a marketing assistant for three years, and joined DALI. ‘Mas mataas ang sahod at mas may opportunity po umahon,’ she says, adding that ‘nakakagulat na meron palang ganito,” she said.

DALI has a bias for hiring women, who earn less than men and are often victims of job exploitation. The Asian Development Bank said in March that women will receive 45% of the 4,300 jobs created by its $15 million investment in DALI.

Even for some overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), DALI’s offer is so attractive that they are considering not going back abroad.

Crisostomo Delara, 40, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) with six years of driver experience in Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and Malaysia, joined DALI upon hearing that the hard discount retailer pays well—’way higher’ than what most pay for drivers of its own fleet of trucks that deliver merchandise from the warehouse to DALI’s growing outlets. Two other DALI drivers told Bilyonaryo.com that they earn P900 a day.

Drivers like Crisostomo complete their daily regular hours delivering to three outlets. If this is done ahead of schedule, DALI still fully compensates for the full day and allows the drivers to use the remaining hours to rest for the next day’s grind, made tough by Metro Manila’s notorious traffic.

“Hindi na ako babalik abroad,” says Crisostomo, after unloading his delivery in a Paranaque store and as he prepares to drive back to DALI’s hub in Cavite. “Maliban na lang kung malaki bayad kesa sa natatanggap ko sa DALI. Mas mabuti ito at kasama ko pa pamilya ko. Bihira and katulad ng DALI, makatao sa manggagawa.”

    the article sounds woke/leftist/progressive

"we're the new breed of employer... we actually care about employees"

it's easy to be a progressive employer when you have a $100M budget and under no pressure to be profitable yet

By the way ang unang kumalaban sa 7-11 eh si mercury drug. So mas di hamak mura si mercury kay 7-11 and 24hours pa. But si mercury is situated sa main road need malalaki space.
ung mercury sa quezon ave (national bookstore)

    that's my 7-11

I like Dali even more. I will only work for a company whose values I believe in. If only I have retail experience talaga nag apply na ko. I am overqualified naman as cashier and my Lola will not be :happy with that. Their employees are really happy Iba talaga pag European company [emoji5]

I don't patronize companies without ethics/values such as SM. Treats workers like crap, tapos magulang sa suppliers and customers. It's companies like Dali that should succeed.

SM/Groceries/Wholesalers/SSA ang kinakalaban ni Dali because of their low price.
