There's no way to avoid it really. The water distribution lines are PVC, and IMO that's the biggest source of ingested plastic since water flows at high speed and pressure and it's eroding the PVC pipe walls all the way to our homes.
In contrast, the amount of plastic abraded by some food or water sitting still in a container is probably minimal.
Put a filter? I suppose that helps but the filter housing is plastic too!
Water dispenser? Yeah still plastic.
Glass jugs and drinking glasses are really just a short break from drinking water being completely surrounded by plastic.
