pati ba yung wave key ng honda dito sa pinas may immobilizer? o wala? hehehe

medyo ot pero parang wave key rin ...
sa bmw meron sila tinatawag "comfort access" ... the "key" actually is a transceiver of sort ... the car disarms and unlocks whenever it is within vicinity and you can start/drive the car (via start/stop button on the dash) with the key in your pocket ... the key also stores some settings you do on your car, e.g., radio stations, seat adjustments (nice for husband/wife drivers)
what i find really interesting is ... it has rechargeable battery and gets recharged whenever it is inserted in its socket on the dash without electrical contacts (!) so it must be magnetic induction just like those braun toothbrush ... walang magawa yung mga germans noh?
if there is no blinking RED key on your gauge cluster after you take the key out of the ignition, NO immobilizer.Originally Posted by knicks1204
As I've mentioned on the first page, immobilizer and wave key ay magkaiba. Kahit hindi wavekey, pedeng magkaron ng immobilizer. i.e. USDM Mazda3 has an immobilizer but not a wave key design.
immobilizer = software design
wave key = hardware design
Also available for the first time on a BMW in this class is Comfort Access. All cars receive a newly designed key that replaces the conventional blade-type key but with Comfort Access the key contains an ID Sensor that the car recognises from a short distance away. On recognition, the doors are unlocked automatically and the car can be started with one push of the starter button. The Comfort Access system also works in tandem with BMW's familiar key memory system to ensure that the seating position, door mirrors, personalised air conditioning settings and radio reception are automatically adjusted to the current drivers' settings before they enter the car.
i think Lexus also has this system na rin ah. forgot, lemme doublecheck the car and driver magazine for this month...
is that the same as VW keys???
accdg to some website, The VW security system requires a transponder-equipped key to start the car. A transponder is a small electronic chip embedded in the head of the key. When the key is turned to the "start" position, the car emits a small burst of radio-frequency energy. This energy powers the key and instructs it to emit a reply to the car. If the code in the reply doesn't match the code asked for, the car will not start, even though the ignition will turn and the starter operates.

I think meron nyan sa bagong lexus nila yung pinakamahal nilang sedan.
well, not really ... kasi (the manual says) you need to hold the door handle to unlock the door ... holding the door handle allows the detection of the key in your pocket ... funny because if an intruder watches you, he'll be wondering why he can't open the door but you can!Originally Posted by Karding
my error ... keys with comfort access feature do not have rechargeable battery ... the battery is simply replaced when exhausted
but keys without comfort access do have the rechargeable battery ... these keys, athough comfort-access look-alike, are just basic remote control
well, if you would have said that in the first place, I would have never had the wrong assumption or conclusion.Originally Posted by kinyo
yup ... i had the same impression as yours until i RTFM!Originally Posted by Karding

the manual actually calls it "convenient access", not "comfort access" ... little things you get from translating languages
how much ba magpa-duplicate ng wave key sa casa? any ideas?
thanks
Wave key. In my knowledge...
This is the car with immobilizer. They (the chips) need to read each other to certify that the car is not stolen and the owner is the one driving it. Usually the chip sa key is located at the upper portion, dun sa hawakan. Sa mga German cars, usually malalaki anf susi nila kasi all in one na sila. Kasama na din yung pag-open ng locks or mga special features like pang open ng window para ipasingaw ang init sa loob and even start the engine kahit wala ang susi sa key slot. Ganyan sila ka advance kasi or shall I say ganyan sila kagalante sa Pinas vs sa Jap cars. =))
The key itself, either wave sya or brick or conventional, it is just the key to start it. Yung sa BMW na bago now, wave din sila pero start stop nya is push button na. =)
Hope this help a little. =)
Thanks! and God bless!
Not all wave keys of Honda are equipped with immobilizer. The wave key simply pertains to the design of the key itself. The serations are quite different from the traditional keys we've grown accustomed to. It's a little hard to duplicate but i heard that some shops already accept duplication of this key. The immobilizer system is a different from this where as an electronic chip is embedded in the key itself which send a signal to the car's ECU. The signals of both the key and the ECU must match for you to start the car. If they don't, the ECU cuts off fuel supply to the car disabling it.
It has been 4 years. Sorry for resurrecting this thread. I misplaced the keys to my '03 CRV and I would like to have 3 more duplicates this time. I believe the original keys don't have immobilizer chips in them. Where can I go for duplication?
IMO, the "wave key" is just a play on words concocted by Honda which pertains to the transponder inside the key housing, as it operates in RF (as in radio frequency wave) and is in fact an RFID system. The transponder works in conjunction with the vehicle immobilizer system.
