March 20th, 2009 09:14 AM #1Hi! We are trying to develop a security system for cars that will trigger its brake system composed of a disc brake that is connected to its master cylinder by a Brake Fluid line. We will attach an embedded device that is GSM capable so it can receive and read text messages. This embedded device is actually connected to a triggering device that is also connected to the brake system of the car.
The idea here is,.The owner will send a text message containing a special keyword to the mobile number of its automobile. Once the embedded device receives the message, it will check whether the keyword is correct. When it is correct, it will activate the triggering device to do something in its brake system to put the automobile on halt.
We need help, we will only be developing a prototype, but we need an emulation of the brake, or the actual brake system of a car. We need to consider the speed of the car while its running before the brake system can be activated for the safety of the driver. Anyone there who has an idea what's the best possible way to trigger the brake system of the car? And how can we test or consider the speed?
please:D

IMO, it's dangerous not only to the driver but more over to other motorist.
There's already a product that uses SMS to kill ignition, and this is lot safer.

March 20th, 2009 09:33 AM #3but killing the ignition will cause more damages to your car?,.hmm, theres an existing system that triggers the brake system of the car though which says it causes less damage to your automobile,.? here's the link

we will actually try to consider the speed of the car, or activate automatically the hazards? there are actually room for improvements, so please tell us what u think, thank you:D

You'll need an electronic-activated linear-motion electric-solenoid for your system to activate the brakes. It can be patched into the existing brake system via the brake booster.
To consider the speed of the car, have the system apply the brakes slowly over a relatively long period before it completely locks the wheels, example: time from activation to full lock would be one minute. This would be enough to prevent accidents from happening.
But the system should also disable the ignition as well when the system as nearly locked the brakes. This should prevent the person driving the stolen car from doing the vehicle damage by forcing the engine to turn the brake locked wheels.
It's relatively a simple project. Digital trigger system to the solenoid control system and ignition kill system. It's also possible to have it trigger a GPS positioning system so you can find the car too.

March 20th, 2009 10:17 AM #5the cost to modify a vehicle's braking systems is skyhigh already , yet not safe, and i don't know if anybody out there will be interested .
consider the economics and safety .

There was a product that also uses GSM, to disable the car, it turns of the fuel pump. Effectively diabling the car.
I think this is simpler kasi you are turning on/off power. no need for a mechanical part to engage the brakes.
that may be, but we all got plastic, young and old. we asked the lto guy, "papel ba po, o...
