The original concept behind foglights is a wide dispersion beam capable of illuminating a wide area at close range. However, as more and more people installed additional lamps to their vehicles, the concept has somehow blurred into regular headlamp-style long range visibility to the point that these lights can no longer be properly called fog lamps but rather "auxilliary" lamps.

As with any other type of high-intensity lighting equipment, traffic safety dictates that the lamps be aimed so that they don't dazzle oncoming traffic. Other people opt to aim their lamps traight ahead to maximize their utility, but also take care to wire them together with the high beams, so as not to be a traffic nuisance.

ang magandang sukatan nyan e park mo yung auto mo sa level na garage o kalsada tapos sukatin mo yung taas ng ilaw ng foglamps mo mula sa sahig then get a piece of plywood sukatin mo naman mula sa auto mo mga 5feet ang layo tapos tayo mo dun yung plywood with the mark ng taas ng ilaw ng foglamps then ilower mo yung guhit mo mga 1-2 inches below your original measurement para ang beam ng ilaw mo hindi nakatingala o nakayuko masyado..

afaik, oem foglights are meant to illuminate the road just in front of the vehicle (notice that oem foglights are installed at the lower part of bumper) ... in a thick fog, the headlights are pretty much useless for forward visibility, but the foglights would serve their purpose

off-the-shelf yellow foglights are meant for other drivers to see your vehicle ... reason being that the eyes are more sensitive to yellow lights (although this is debatable) ... and would rightly be directed straight ahead ... without foglights, i use the hazard lights for others to see

Don't use hazards in the rain. IMO they are very distracting. Lalo na pag lahat naka Hazard na.

for me effective yung hazard during a super heavy rain dahil usually eh hindi mo na mapansin yung katabi or likod na vehicle kahit naka headlight sila..

Kaya nga dapat meron FRONT and REAR fog lamps. In fact, I think the rear foglamp is more important than the front because it would be near impossible to miss the headlights from the front. The rearend can be a little vague.

As I've pointed out in another thread, a rear foglamp is nothing but a single high intensity red lamp hanging beneath the rear bumper. In traffic where vehicle passing is done in the left lane (otherwise known as right-lane drive traffic, like ours here in the Phils), the foglamp is located in the left-hand side of the vehicle, and vice-versa for left-lane drive countries.

The rear foglamp is hooked up together with the front foglamp and glows a bright red much like the brake lamps.
