Headlight bulbs are sealed beams, H1, H3, H4, H7, 9001, 9003, 9004 & 9007. They differ in contacts and adapters. For HID bulbs there are only two types D2R & D2S, the latter has shorter glass and sold more common on any HID kits.

Previous HID bulbs sold were 4000K (whitish than halogen bulbs), 6000K (more whitish with a hint of blue hue) & 8000K (bluish hue). Nowadays, cheaper HID kits that were made in Taiwan and Japan produces 8000K-12000K, which is more of form than functionality. HIDs more suited to rainy driving is 4000K-6000K.

ummm... "HID builbs" are just HID lookalikes. they don't give the light output of real HID lamps.

iba yung technology ng HID lamp, kung baga, para siyang fluorescent lamp compared to incandescent lamp for the normal bulb. Yung HID, kaya mahal, may kasamang ballast (parang fluorescent nga..)

so yung mga HID kit na bulb na H1, H4, etc.. they just give the COLOR of xenon discharge lighting, but not the illumination level; in fact their illumination level is LOWER than good old yellow halogen lamps, kasi the color shift is just implemented using a FILTER, which reduces the bulb's light output.

What I mean by 4000K - 6000K are color temperatures of light it produces not the actual price. HID kits are composed of ballast, bulbs and adapter kit for your headlight. Afaik, there are only two manufacturers of HID bulbs and ballasts, these are Philips and Hella, though the latter still buys ballasts from Philips to include them in their own package. A D2S or D2R bulb alone costs Php15,000-20,000. All kits are defined by what adapter is needed for the installation, basically plug ang play kits. Banawe shops do carry HID kits with H4 adapters.

Don't be mislead by HID imitation halogen bulbs. Maybe this is what orly_andico is indicating? High Intensity Discharge (HID) bulbs and Bi-Xenon gas charged are the same. They use D2S or D2R gas charge bulbs which is a big difference compared to halogen bulbs which use filament heat to produce light.

i was referring to imitation HID bulbs, in response to this query:

from the context of the statement, it seemed to be asking about replacement filament-type HID-alike bulbs (4k to 6k, i assumed temperature/color yun... since filament-type HID-alikes are available in a wide variety of temperatures).

may question ako regarding H1 bulbs, looks kinda weird coz isa lang paa. You need a positive and a negative to make it work right? So ang contact nito is yung isang paa then yung body?

the body is the ground connector on H1 bulbs.

meron akong alam na alternative but itll cost you ariound 7-8k pa din, and yung efficiency nya is up to 60-70% only na nang original HID oh-so-expensive mods. use the raybrig hid bulbs combine w light booster and relay(ballast) for support sa kuryente and there you have it. though i only know a few who know how to do it safely (shops).

Bago yang light booster, di ko pa nababalitaan yan. Kamusta naman kaya ang feedback ng mga users nun?

Halogens will still be halogens no matter what additions you will add thru its connections and wires, filament does have its advatages and disadvantages over gas charged HID bulbs.

Relays are not associated with ballasts.

    Ungas,
I plan to change my housing to raybrig for easy replacement ng bulbs when it gets busted. What will be the advantages and dissadvantages of this compared to the stock sealed beam I'm currently using?

Mas madaling magpalit ng bulbs pag halogen type assembly. I've seen numerous vehicles with rectangular clear lens, kasukat dun yata yang ng nasa Tamaraw FX. Halogens project light more scattered than prism type sealed beams.

Downside, pag pangit ang nabiling mong halogen assembly, mist and haze could form inside the lenses. Pero 1 out of 300 chance yun. Pwede naman ibalik sa pinagbilhan mo kung may factory defects.

What do you guys think of xenon bulbs? Meron kasi ako nakita sa transportshow, xenon-bulbs.com. Maliwanag naman yung mga sample nila. May store sila sa araneta.

    Has anyone tried this?

Ok naman ang xenon-gas charged bulbs, these ar the same as HID bulbs. Kailangan mo nga lang adjust ng kaunti pababa yung stock settings ng ilaw, medyo nakakasilaw kasi sa kasalubong.
