there's nothing better mga pre than to Eased up on the accl pedal. I've proven this, reving below 2K rpm really saves gas! from 4-5km/lit to 5-6km/lit sa city driving... These fuels by Shell maybe do work but it will compromise yun acceleration that you're looking for sometimes. I have a new Xtrail 2.0 and the tech claimed that it consumes 7 to 8km/Lit. Well when i drove it it does have the kick but upon reaching certain speed d acceleration slows down. So sa arangakda lang mabilis then sa rekta mabagal na. Kumakamot pa nga ang tires considering matic e2. I was wondering kse why my accord eats 5 to 6 lang. Asa config din pala ng engine. Computer boxes , etc. not like yun mga first models b4 w/c depends sa carburator, hangat di nalulunod GO PA DIN! hehehe...
kaya nagshe-shake kapag mas mababang RON na gas ang ikinarga because of the "knocking", in a funny sort of way, ang mga kotse marnong din mamihasa... anyway, the reason behind kasi kapag mas mataas ang RON ibig sabihin e, yun ang ability niya masunog, therefore, kung mas mataas sya, mas madali syang masunog or mas concentrated sya or vice-versa. napansin nyo ba na kapag nagkarga ka ng velocity then nag refill ka ng ordinary humihina ang hatak? yun yon.
anyway, comment for vegeta. nice to hear na kahit paano nakakatipid ka sa truck mo. kapag bagong oil change kasi mas optimized ang andar ng makina, kaya payong kaibigan lang, stick to your maintenance schedule, at hindi ka bibiguin ng truck mo, also it will serve you more in the years to come...
noticed that shell premium n unleaded have 93 RONs. while vortex gold has 95 n silver has 93.
eniweys nagkarga ako ngayon shell unleaded. by friday malaman ko kung better mileage ba o bitter mileage...
vegeta, the octane measurement there in your country may not be the same as here in the philippines.
the bottom line is, if you continue to use fuel that is lower than the one recommendeded by your manufacturer expect your engine to experience knocking anytime soon.
btw here, unleaded is 92 octane. premium unleaded goes from 93-96.
after for shell's better mileage - i believe that there is about a 5% gain... but this all depends on how you mash your accelerator.
in my rav4, the lowest that i've ever gotten is around 7.5km/l - doing 160kph runs, shifting at 4K, etc... with that kind of driving in my mazda, i'd go to a low of only 7km/l.
pare, sa pinas ang pinaguusapan. in the philippines where the compression ratios of engines are higher the octane rating also needs to be higher.
dyan sa america where you obviously are, the gasoline octane ron are lower (87 for regular and 92/93 for premium) because the compression ratios of cars for the american market are lower. this is to reduce the NOx in the emmission.
remember, for 2 things to be compared some things must be made constant. the constant here is "location", which is the philippines.

Most new engines require RON rating of 95 or higher. If you use lower RON rating it will run but the knock sensors will prevent the engine from working efficiently.
