July 11th, 2017 07:52 PM #27I fully agree with you sir oj88. There are 3 types of contaminants that wears out the oil and required to be changed. They are soot, moisture and condition caused. What you mentioned fall under the condition caused contamination (oxidation, nitration and acid). The other types of oil contaminations are soot & other solids, and moisture. Soot is produced during combustion and will mix with the oil. This is aggravated with the presence of EGR in some engines. Solid contaminants come from the air intake, breather and even through the oil filling cap and dipstick. It also comes from the wear metals. Moisture is produced during combustion as well as during condensation process due to change in temp. If left in the oil this will speed up the wearing out. Fully synthetic oil has better properties and more stable. It wears out longer than mineral oil at the same operating conditions. But, still oil need to be changed because of the contaminants. Sad to say, that the OEM full flow filters (rated bet 15-40 microns) are not fine enough to trap the most wear causing particle size 1-10microns. This is where bypass filter comes in as an additional to the OEM filter. They are available at 1 micron and even smaller. By removing the contaminants continuously from the oil draining can be extended by a factor of 4 to 6 or 20,000km to 30,000km or even longer. You only have to change the filter element. There is a SAE paper on "correlating lube oil filtration efficiencies with engine wear" which stated that "wear was reduced by as much as 70% by going from 40 micron to 15 microns filter". Experts are saying that with today's bypass filter technology the wear rate reduction are higher and engine life can easily double.

July 11th, 2017 11:02 PM #28a daihatsu charade originally with a small, (3-cylinder?) engine, now with a 4-cyl nissan sentra engine.
nice conversion.
in our experience, the smoother idling, etc, of the engine, can be attained via a simple oil change, even with mineral oil only, and without pertua.
the rest of the above, seems like suspension and tire issues, and not engine.
