    Anyone here interested in Hybrids?

Hybrids are most popular in Japan due to the traffics.

I'm sure it would be best for Manila to have Hybrids on the road since we encounter traffic most of the time and this will reduce emissions close to none.

No to mention mileage would be very high.

I've seen the new Toyota Prius in San Francisco and it's really a nice car.

Ford in the US will be selling the ESCAPE Hybrids this year.

Hope that the goverment will give special incentives to Hybrid vehichles so that they will consider selling Hybrids in the Philippines.

It would be nice to have a car that would do 25 to 100 km per liter of gasoline (or diesel) and still perform relatively similar street performance of standard gasoline powered cars. Hybrid cars are the most sensible ways of achieving this... avoiding the need of having a charging station at home & work for pure electric cars and alternative fuel stations for LPG & hydrogen and other alternative fuel sources.

Kung sino Presidentiable ang mag offer nito boboto ko siya hahahahah

May arguments about hybrid... the amount of fuel you saved on a hybrid will never match the amount you paid for a hybrid (difference between a hybrid and non-hybrid civic)... I think Car and Driver writers are the ones who doesn't see the advantages of hybrids... Sabi nila it'll take more than 20years of fuel savings to finally reach the price of the hybrid model...

Makes sense though, I mean, the hybris civic costs 8,000USD more than the base model Civic sa US.. With US pump prices, it'll take a long time to use that up.

That argument may be quelled by installing hybrid systems on gas-guzzling SUVs and Trucks. The ROI would be much more shorter as the % of fuel savings dramatically increases when the system is applied to full-sized SUVs and Trucks as compared to Compact Sedans.

There were talks that the new F150 will be equipped with a hybrid system after 2 years.

Imagine the savings in fuel when you are talking the difference of 8 to 10km/L for pure gasoline car and 25 to 50km/L for a hybrid gas/electric car. I think the savings can justify the added cost. Anyway, the gasoline engine would be around 500cc to 1000cc engine so tax will be pretty light.

Sa U.S. may tax breaks at subsidies ang pagbili ng hybrids or electrics. Dito wala. Malamang sobrang mahal ng purchase price niyan.

curiously though, our country is pretty much a good market for hybrid cars. Given gasoline is getting expensive even for the "can-afford" people.

Its possible that hybrid mid-sized sedans and SUVs to be a sales hit locally if a car company would be brave enough to market a model or two locally.

    OR

someone might develop a retro-fit system that replaces the rear-drum brake with a motor/generator in the wheel hub so you can cruise the city with less effort from the car's engines, hence lowering fuel consumption. But this retrofit system means you CANNOT turn off the engine completely though because you will loose power steering, brakes, etc.

pwede let the engine idle lang while the rear electric motor/generator system provide the propulsion and regenerative braking for short to medium distances. The idling engine can also provide some electric power to recharge the batteries when its idling so to extend the range of the electric system.

current motor/generator in hub designs can already provide about up to 50HP per motor and in total of two motors, you can get 100HP. Add the power from the gasoline engine (about 110HP), you end up with a 210HP car that gets 50km/Liter. :D
