i am just wondering, in a few days, we will enter 2017 already, yet there are still fuel stations accepting cash and susceptible to holdups and robberies...

the question is, why are Philippine fuel stations not promoting pure electronic payment to prevent such crimes stated above?

To answer, the whole market. Not all can comply with that.

Probably harder to execute since not everyone has credit cards. It seems easier to enforce electronic toll fee collection by forcing everyone to get a RFID during vehicle registration, but rare highway travellers wouldn't agree.

Can't remember the requirements, but would the average PUV driver be easoly granted credit cards by banks?

kawawa naman ang PUV, sa tagal tagal nila experience sa pag byahe di pa nila ma project kung magkano per day/week/month ang gastos sa crudo?

tska di pwede excuse ang wala pang advance, pano pag naka aksidente or may nasira part na biglaan, kamot ulo na lang?

simple ATM will do, magkano lang maintaining balance ng ATM? 500 lang yata, not necessary credit card...

mas ok nga ang cashless electronic, protected ang pera mo sa PIN and skimming (EMV ATM) at protected din sa pag nanakaw ang gas station kase napaka liit lng ng pera naka imbak

siguro ang drawback ng atm/debit card eh protected nga ang pera mo, pero pag nawala mo ang card (pati yata pag na sira) eh bayad ka replacement fee for a new card...

its the modern era na, transactions are being recorded already and fraud can be detected...

at least on the electronic side there is a trace, sa cash wala...

You and me, madali lang replenish yung credits ng fuel card. Most likely, we can opt to refill it online using credit card or some other modes of online payment. But for a typical PUV driver, they'll look at it as an additional hassle. Kelangan pa nila mag hulog sa bangko, bayad center, or sa mismong gas station to refill their fuel card. In the end, the convenience of using the card is outweighted by the extra work to refill them.

its not a fuel card per se, it can be a ATM/debit card, diba mas ok kung meron ka saving sa banko that you know that the transactions are recorded and can be contested if in doubt... not unlike sa physical cash, pitikin sayo yan, wala ka na magagawa...

at the end of the day, lahat or partial ng kinita eh ilagay sa banko, thats what business do...

^ Depends. Mostly kita ng driver nauubos sa daily expenses nila so kung meron silang ATM, more of savings account not for emergencies.

When I worked in retail, being the manager, I loved card transactions since you don't need to do a (1)"cash count" and (2) if ever you loose you're receipt, you can just write a sorry letter to the bank.

But the owners hated it, turns out the bank will take around 2 weeks to pay for the actual transaction (this was in the late '90s so maybe things have changed)

I remember my last road trip to Malaysia, I needed to fill up gas in Malacca but forgot to activate my credit card for overseas transactions. The gasoline attendant offered that I use his card then I just hand over the cash to him... I don't think I'll ever see our local gas attendants holding credit cards (thanks to our local bank's requirements) So just imagine how difficult it will be for PUV drivers to get one.

not for me, i avoid cash as much as possible

1st its dirty
2nd can be shortchanged
3rd there are fakes

Kung electronic ang collection ng PUVs pwede ring electronic ang pambili nila. Parang beep card na universal kahit gas station or mapa 7-11. Parang octopus card or yung sa HK.

I know what youre saying but you do get my point diba. If isang segment lang ang gagawin electronic, it would be very hard. It has to be a huge change with the expectation na dadami ang users, may it be gas stations , puvs, commuters etc. Otherwise kung isang area lang then it might not be worth it. Also note the majority of country ay unbanked. Same is true with other 3rd world countries.
