We're planning to buy our first family car this year sa installment lang for 5 years, nasa below 1M ang price ng car dapat. I don't know anything about vehicles, mag-enroll pa nga ako sa driving school.

I'm leaning towards Lancer EX 2.0 GLS CVT because of its good looks at 2.0 na ang engine, pero marami na akong nababasa na turn-off daw talaga ang interior nito.

Thanks in advance your expert advise.

I would go for the Lancer because of its style and performance.

The Lancer 2.0L EX is a great car. Handles well, powerful engine, good looks, spacious interior.

But there are a few details which is not on the GLS which is found on the GT-A model: (from what I remember)
-bumpers, sideskirts (different or absent on the GLS)
-paddle shifters (absent on the GLS)
-electronic guage cluster (GLS have more basic guages)
    -smaller disc brakes
    -small wheels (16s vs 18s)

At least the bumper and sideskirts can be easily be done in the aftermarket.

    hehehe, just saying the differences.

If you like the look of the Lancer GT/GT-A, you might be a bit disappointed with the more bare/basic looking Lancer EX GLS model. But at least it is relatively easy to fix (with aftermarket stuff).

As a family car, it is all there in the GLS. Big interior, powerful engine w/ CVT tranny for effortless/smooth driving even with a full load and smoother ride with it's smaller wheels with taller tires.

My only complaint would be the fake wood trim in the interior. But even that can be "fixed" with a little creative aftermarket "fix".

What can i say... Ok ang interior. No problem with aesthetics. Sabi sa kin ng kakilala ko na may EX GLS, tipid to for a 2.0. Makati-QC route, 8KM/ltr. To think this is 2.0 AT, ok na ok! Hindi nya nga pala ginagamit ung Invecs. Mas malakas kasi sa FC ung paggamit nun.

Okay lang yan kahit GLS. Parehong EX naman yan eh. Gwapo.

    Quoted from sir ghosthunter ::
-bumpers, sideskirts (different or absent on the GLS)
-paddle shifters (absent on the GLS)
-electronic guage cluster (GLS have more basic guages)
    -smaller disc brakes
    -small wheels (16s vs 18s)
Yung bumper/sideskirts and yung SPOILER, too add na rin. Di naman importante iyan. Pamporma lang yan.

Paddle shifters - not really. Unless, medyo nasa sporty mode ka. Pero since family man ka and medyo bago ka palang sa driving ... di na ito kailangan.

ECG - Okay lang ang basic.

smaller disc brakes / rear drum brakes - mas okay sana kung all disc brakes na. Pero, okay lang din ito.

smaller wheels - mas okay ang 16's and 17's IMO. Masyado na malaki yung 18's. Di ko sure kung matagtag na iyun.

Hmmm... may MID ba ang mga EX ?

sandali lang, ano ba yung requirements for the "family car" na hinahanap?

parang pinipilit lang yung looks ng lancer ex without even checking what the real needs are. baka naman kasi yung family is 5 adults and 2 children, doon pa lang wala na siya. imho also, first car = bump car. finally, di ba matagtag yung lancer vs altis? for family ba talaga or for racing/porma?

mtbjr, para mas matulungan ka ng mga forumers natin, maybe best to detail your needs? it usually answers the following questions (more details, better):

    - how many will be riding the vehicle on a normal day? how many will be riding at most?
    - budget = 1M max or around 1M mark?
    - are maintenance cost and fuel consumption factors for the purchase?
    - will the vehicle be a daily ride or just a weekend unit?
    - what will be the usual route (consider road conditions)?
    - will the vehicle be carrying loads? how heavy and how bulky?
    - will the vehicle be usually brought out of town?
    - do you have any particular preference for car brands?
    - etc

for a comprehensive list, you can also check motioncars.com. nandon na lahat ng binebenta sa pilipinas.

    just helping you out.

Interior's okay but it does feel a little cheap and deprived of polish compared to the FD Civic or the ZZE141 Corolla Altis. The CY4A Lancer does have the best stock seats of the bunch though.

    - how many will be riding the vehicle on a normal day?
2 po kung gagawin kong pamasok sa work (me & my wife)
    - how many will be riding at most?
    2 adults (me & my wife) + 3 kids (7yo, 3yo, 1yo)
    - budget = 1M max or around 1M mark?
    below 1M lang po
    - are maintenance cost and fuel consumption factors for the purchase?
    - will the vehicle be a daily ride or just a weekend unit?
    - what will be the usual route (consider road conditions)?
ang daily route ng shuttle na sinasakyan ko from Marikina to Makati ay either C5 or EDSA. traffic pag inabot ako ng past 7am nakasakay, pero usually ay walang traffic dahil mga 6am ako umaalis ng bahay
    - will the vehicle be carrying loads? how heavy and how bulky?
most of the time no, siguro pag may lakad lang ang family pag weekends
    - will the vehicle be usually brought out of town?
nope, pero pag naisipan naming mamasyal
    - do you have any particular preference for car brands?

Newbie ako sa world of vehicles. Thanks in advance for your inputs.
