Planning to get another hybrid next year (to replace our Honda City)
(As of today) Presently looking at the Yaris Cross HEV and the Sealion 6
Price: ₱ 1,610,000 vs ₱ 1,548,000
- Yaris Cross is 62K more expensive.
There's word that Toyota has heavily discounted the Yaris Cross, but I haven't contacted our agent to confirm this as next year pa namin plan bumili.
Yaris Cross (AC200) uses the DNGA-B Platform
Sealion 6 (aka Song Plus) uses the DM-i 5.0 Platform
Big plus na plug-in hybrid ang Sealion 6 - pero we live in a condo and we can't install a charger in our parking slot.
Based on my research - if you don't plug the Sealion 6, owners are reporting to get around 20km/l (around 14-17km/l yung Zenix namin and I'm hoping na di lalayo gaano yung Yaris Cross)
With the Yaris Cross - it may NOT have the same Toyota reliability, pero you get that Toyota badge, local support and parts availability.
Not sure how the Ayala's will handle BYD in the future. I'm happy with our Honda (and Honda Makati) pero I've heard horror stories from Kia and VW owners.
Just a moment...

2023 Toyota Yaris Cross
BYD Sealion 6 DM-i

Having been inside both cars.
Sealion 6 has a better interior. Pero it was the same feeling and observation I had when the Coolray and Territory were new.
Yaris Cross is way smaller.
Sealion 6 accelerates better compared to the Yaris Cross (that uses a CVT).

Honestly, if the Yaris Cross was priced at 1.4M, the decision would have been easier.

may wow moment... feeling ko sulit yung sub-1.5M na ilalabas ko.
before buying the Zenix, I asked my wife to check out the Rav-4 and CR-V. Naliitan sya sa headunit ng both cars and nasikipan sya sa CR-V... ang unang comment nya was "yun na yun?"
She was also not happy with the Kicks - pero at least daw mura (compared to the CR-V and Rav-4)
So just like the Coolray and Territory, gusto ni misis yung interior ng Sealion.
(She also tried the Yaris Cross while we were waiting for the release of our Zenix, nasikipan din sya)

I would actually not go for these and recommend the Changan Nevo Q05 instead. It's a better looking car, a better powertrain, better interior (styling is more EU than USA), and it's from a car company that has been around since the 1800's. Changan also happens to be a Mazda manufacturer as well. The Q05 drives really really well too. The distributor in the PH is Inchcape, also a company with roots in the 1800's.
It's also a better deal, since Inchcape is offering an 80k discount on the TOTL variant, SRP is ₱1.499M. I suggest you test drive one. If you have colleagues or friends in China, you can ask them about Changan's reliability and reputation.
Among the three, the worst deal is probably the Yaris Cross. Both the Q05 and the SL6 are as big as a RAV4, yet the Yaris Cross is smaller than a Corolla Cross; also has less safety features, less ADAS, etc.

yup...
DNGA-B = Avanza, Veloz, (new) Vios and Yaris Cross
TNGA-C = Corolla E210, Corolla Cross, Zenix and Lexus UX
I remember our friend from Toyota told us that the Corolla Cross is a way better car/drive/feel compared to the Yaris Cross.
Would have considered the Corolla Cross 1.8 G HEV (₱ 1,514,000) if it had ADAS.

June 18th, 2025 02:36 PM #9Sealion 6.
My experience with ayalas dealership for both my Honda and VW was very good.
Which is why i have reservations with all the negative feedback from their dealers.
The Younger Ayala is taking the helm of AC mobility and BYD is their main focus.
they know BYD cars is going very big worldwide
BTW the new upcoming Sealion 5 is a better competitor to the yaris Cross when it comes to size and features.Last edited by ale828; June 18th, 2025 at 02:39 PM.

someones are (at last!) loudly asking, "why did they turn off the countdown timers?"
