Get a BMW diesel. Best bet i sthe 530d or 520d. You could also go for the e90 320d.
In a few years time the savings you get from the fuel consumption would offset the price of any repairs made on a second hand BMW. pre owned BMW has a good warranty. Bought a e46 several years ago and the warranty is helpful in reducing the cost of repairs.
