    Hi All,

I'm planning to buy a brand new car for my Mom. This car will be used on weekdays to accompany her to her checkups and whatever activity she wants to do. I plan to hire a driver to drive the car for her.

Since I won't be driving the car, I only have the following requirements.
    1. Comfortable to ride in.
    2. Reliable and won't break down easily.
    3. Low maintenance cost.

Is there any car that fits my budget or should I get a 2nd hand instead?

    Need your inputs!

I think Toyota vios' base model would suit your needs. Its 584k, plus it's a toyota.

Under 600k, there's the Vios, the Accent and Rio base models. Of the three, I prefer the Rio.

Under 500k, you get the Eon and the Alto. The Eon is more comfortable. The Mirage will come in just under 500k for the base model, but is much bigger than either. Might be worth a look.

hmmmm. at 500k and below... your options are quite limited.
tapos may issue ka pa na masyadong maliit.

why not get a second hand altis instead? or a second hand lancer?

If you want something comfortable at that budget, specially for moms & dads with drivers, a used but good condition mid-size car would be best. For 500k or below, you can get either one of these; Mazda6, 7th gen Accord, previous model Camry, late model A33 Cefiro, 9th gen Galant. Maintenance and fuel consumption may not be similar to compacts or sub-compacts but you get a more comfortable ride with ample space and better features. Most midsize cars have better suspension than compacts/sub-compacts, not to mention ample power on tap for cruising. Maybe you can also consider a used compact SUV (CRV, Xtrail, Escape, Tribute) or a used Innova.

A secondhand 500k car that used to cost 1.5m will cost more to maintain than a brand new 1.5m car.

You don't want to know how much it costs to replace a steering rack or an automatic transmission on a secondhand Accord.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

    Thanks for the inputs guys!

I have decided to omit 2nd hand cars! I haven't bought a 2nd hand car for quite some time now but I can still remember the many problems I encountered when I bought my first car (which was 2nd hand) over a decade ago.

With that, I'm now stretching my budget to 650k and am considering the following contenders.
    Vios, Mirage, Spark, Rio

Can you please share which among the 4 is the better buy and why?

With a budget of 650k, the Vios is still the most sensible choice for me. Among your choices, I believe that the Vios will have the best resale value and since its a Toyota, you are guaranteed that parts are available anywhere.

If its gonna be driver driven, the J model should suffice.

    Toyota Vios! Very Reliable.

Very cheap to maintain. Fuel efficient.
Not to mention, it is very comfortable. Ice cold AC!

I have a similar problem and decided not to start a new thread...

Second Hand Car... (Toyota/Honda vs Others)

I tried searching on line sites for used A/T cars with the following criteria...

    Budget: less than 500k
    Mileage: less than 50k

My daughter will use the car and she doesn't want a hatchback...

After clicking "search," the usual City, Vios, Mirage (G4) and Accent (1.4 Gas) came out...

But, there were also tempting options like the Fiesta and the Rio...

City and Vios (even the Mirage) based on my experience will always have good dealership support...

(Happened in 2016) I have a friend who brought his Revo to Toyota after an accident and they still have available colored body panels! Another friend had the same experience with Mitsubishi, dealership fixed her early 90's Lancer after an accident!

If I go for the Fiesta... Can Ford's local dealership provide the same service/parts availability?

if i'll buy a second hand car I'll get the vios. i own one and parts are everywhere, i just replaced my trunk release cable and nabili ko lang replacement sa katabi naming auto supply, how convenient is that.

Even if you buy a 2nd hand car with the price higher than the market value as long as its casa maintained and less than 30k on the odo especially if AT buy mo. try mo mga sa banks yung mga na repossess, usually casa
maintained mga yan. My friends barkada nakabili ng 2016 vios AT sa bank with less than 10k sa odo 500k, maybe may kilala siya sa bank.

Agree with this suggestion. Daming resposessed vios sa banks, kung makachamba, you can get one with just 5k on the odo for 500k or a little bit more. Parang bago na rin.

Like ko na rin sana yung Honda na ito pero same coding day as my Altis.

    *ice15 -

What specific year model are you considering? Does the car need to be a certain age?

If buying used, compacts will be a better option than subcompacts. Both are priced about the same in the used market but you get more car in a compact (Civic, Altis, etc.). Fuel consumption is not that far off also.

I would definitely get an FD Civic if I were in your shoes. You can find a low-mileage 2010 or 2011 FD for the budget.

Beats all other compacts and subcompacts in terms of power, has pretty good space for a car of its vintage, lots and lots of parts both inside and outside the dealership, solid ride, decent features.

Only downside is FC isn't as good as a Vios, but this is a much a better car overall.

You can also get a newer, 2012-2013 FB Civic if you want. More features, more comfortable ride, but not as sporty as the FD (not that your daughter will care I assume).

The same-aged Altis is very very boring (trust me, I've had 4 10th gen Altises). Good power on the 2011-2013 models, but ultimately drab. Doesn't look as classy as the FD too.

Something out of the box, like this one:

Mitsubishi Pajero FieldMaster 4x4 SUV montero hilux fortuner frontier | *******

A bigger vehicle offers more in terms of safety, and everything Metro Manila roads has to offer, i.e. potholes, flood, etc.

    Thanks for all the replies...

Yes may mga nakita nga akong Focus, 3, Lancer, Altis and Civic kaso younger is better sana...

At the end of the day, bakal pa din yan and nadadagdagan kalawang/lumalambot every year... 2010-2011 models are already 7-8 years old, by the time she finishes college, more than 10 years old na.

Ayoko sana ng repossessed car... Based on experience, medyo hassle yung registration. Plus since as-is basis sya, ang daming sakit na lumalabas sa first few months (in reality, na-repossess yung sasakyan kasi nabitin sa monthly fees yung original owner, di na ako aasa sa maintenance)
