    Hi all,

Need ko lang po ng mga advice nyo. Nakapagdecide na kasi ko na kumuha ng brand new mitsubishi mirage recently. Ready na sana, kaso biglang in-offer sakin nung uncle ko yung 2005 ford escape nya.

Ganito kasi, gusto ko yung mirage as a first car for my family. I'm looking at fuel economy since ang mahal ng gas ngayon. But then looking forward in the future, plano ko din naman sana bumili ng mas malaking sasakyan, when the budget allows.

If I buy the Escape, I'll be saving a lot from monthly ammortizations that a new mirage will cost. My concern is, baka mas mahal naman in effect ang maging cost saken, since mas malakas sa gas ang Escape, and also the maintenance.

    What do you think?

no question, go for the Mirage.

If ease of maintenance is your primary concern, Ford Escape would make your wallet flat. parts availability, walang problema pero medyo madugo price. considering 8 years na yung car, sooner or later there would be parts that need replacing.

Mirage naman, maliit but reliability is a non issue because it's brand new.

pros ng escape is sobrang ganda ng ride and seats are comfy. pros ng Mirage, sobrang tipid sa gas and brand new.

Mirage for me. Then buy an suv in the future keeping the mirage. Para meron kang matipid na daily driver tsaka pangmaramihang sakay when needed. Tsaka you can get a diesel one para matipid pa rin. Unless right now madami na kayo. Then i guess masokay ang escape. Pero its old enough to make you experience possible headaches na eh. Good luck!

Magkano ang total first year hulog mo plus other maintenance costs ng brand new (gas, non-warranty items, etc.)? Compare mo yun sa gas, typical repair items for an 8 year old Escape, plus a 30% of the cost of a catastrophic failure, like engine or transmission.

How much will you be saving in amortization? A 2005 Escape will still cost you some 300k. If you're getting it for free, that's another story.

The Mirage should cost you roughly half-as-much to run per kilometer versus the Escape in terms of gas. Not to mention unscheduled servicing (for an Escape, that will be mostly brakes, busted lights, maybe the shocks after eight years). If you're paying roughly the same for both, I'd get the Mirage.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

get the escape, then your uncle buys the new mirage. heh heh. i tell you, sometimes relatives make the "baddest" advisers.
if you can afford it, nothing beats getting a brand new car.
if your intended passengers fit ok in the mirage, then mirage it is.
if your intended passengers will not fit in the mirage, then mirage it ain't.
5 km/li? i'm not sure i'd accept it to use it if it were being given to me free. probably, if i get it free, i'd probably sell it pronto and use the money to get a new mirage..

Thanks to all of you. Now at least I'm having a clear understanding of what the Escape will cost.

And no *niky, I'm not getting it free. Wish I'm that lucky! thanks to your inputs!

    Lets just compute
    Assume 12K km per year
TOTL P638K Mirage vs P300k Escape vs 498K Base
Initial downpayment of 300k for mirage (acc. to bpi that would mean a P8617.59 for 48 months or P7295 for 60 months
Escape 7km/l Mirage 14 kp/l (di ako sure)

    Yearly expenses
    Escape
    Gasoline P85714
    Maintenance P10000 (assume lang)
Slush Fund P15000 (something could go wrong)
    Bank payments NA
    P112514

    Mirage
    Gasoline P29350
Bank Payments P87540 TOTL P51276 Base
    Maintenance P5000
    P121890 TOTL
    P85626 Base

The Base Mirage is substantially cheaper than either
But TOTL Mirage is more expensive than the Escape

    But there's another factor: depreciation
Difficult to compute because there are no 5 year old Mirages or 13 year old escapes

I dont understand the difficulty of getting parts for Fords, I know places that can deliver nearly any ford part in a few hours, even with the option of oem or replacement. Tbh its easier to get parts for a ford than a kia and isnt much more expensive
*OP check if your nearby talyers can supply parts for fords, it could be location related (shops in alabang can fix a ford easily, not so sure about other places)

Go for brand new, whatever happens its under warranty. An 8 year old car even if well maintained will have issues later due to wear and tear. For me, the only time I would be buying 2nd hand is if the car is 3 years or younger. This is based on my experience. The exception to this is when I'm looking for a project car that I would be restoring or modding, in which case, age of the vehicle will not matter.
