Looked over the new Swift displayed at SM North EDSA. The engine bay is clean, as in too clean! The engine is so small you could use the engine bay as another luggage trunk with all that extra space. I would have liked the Swift's styling but that anemic engine is such a downer.

Gen 1 Yaris is good. I miss driving my sister's old Yaris kapag coding car ko. Enough speed for city driving. Madali pa sumingit. lol Though I think masmaganda handling ng swift in general?

But does the 1.2L engine give better fuel economy than the 1.4L & 1.5L engines (Swift)? My relative is really keen on finding 1.2L swift, para matipid daw katulad ng mirage at wigo.

Engine displacement alone will not suffice as basis for fuel economy. You have to consider power-to-weight ratio, regular traffic routes, and the eagerness of the driver to floor the pedal.

A small engine pushing a bigger chassis will not help in fuel efficiency. Hellish traffic conditions will not help either. A driver who likes to redline the tachometer of a car is not that concerned with fuel efficiency.

Yup, I totally agree. I was saying it to my relative. But still he's convinced that the lower displacement, the more fuel friendly.

But for a Swift? Is the 1.2 enough to compete with the likes of Wigo, Mirage, Celerios in terms of fuel efficiency?

Recent review on the new Swift 1.2 said that it can go 11-13 km/l in city (15kmh) and around 18-23 Km/l at hiway. Chassis is also 30% stiffer and a lot more nimble than the previous gen 1.4L.

I'd take the swift vs the Yaris based on looks (personal opinion) and won't compare it to the likes of Mirage and Wigowho are a tad lower in class imho.

This one. Our neighbor had a gas Revo and an Expedition back in the 2000s and he says the Expedition actually sips less fuel than the Revo.

No. Pinakamatipid sa gasolina yung 1.4. Pinakamalakas 1.5. Generally speaking.

Dilemna ko din to, i luv hatchbacks. Pro other than yaris and swift, bet ko tlga ung jazz. Kso ang taas mxado ng resale value kumpara sa 2.

Budget ko din is 200-300k lng. What I saw sa marketplace na swak at di nalayo sa budget is:

    2009 Jazz = 320k
    2010 Yaris = 260k
    2014 Swift = 280k

Sa porma para sa akin, Jazz ang d best. Pero since tight budget, yung 50-60k na price difference ay malaking bagay na tlaga. Kaya Im leaning to get the yaris na lng sana.
    Ano po inputs nyo? Thx.
Btw, manual trans sana kukunin ko sakali.

If you don’t mind a tighter and less versatile interior, pwede na ang yaris.

sagad na ba yung 300k budget?

kasi may pagagawa ka na sa 10 year old Jazz - naiisip ko na pwedeng tawaran yung 320k to 300.

Yaris should be very similar to the Vios, so easier ang parts and technically it's a bigger car than the Swift

If budget is an issue, based on your choices, Swift vs Yaris
depende na lang yan sa gamit+alaga ng previous owner.

Sagad na. Yung rarity ng yaris (lumang gen), knowing that its a T-Badge, tapos yung market price nya, parang sulit.
Pero iba tlaga yung Jazz. Kaso kung ang price difference nya is almost a bnew motor, parang kakahinayang.
Yung Swift nman, kahit medyo bagong model, sa dmi ng kalampag issues na nababasa ko, parang mahirap.

2009 vs 2014 is a 5 year difference na hindi natin alam kung paano ginamit yung car...

5 year old vs 10 year old car.

Those are the best years of the Jazz & Yaris. Simple, easy to maintain, parts aplenty....& best of all, nonCVTs. The Jazz, esp the 1.5, will be be more fun & give more space. Forget the Swift. Good luck, sir!

+1 on this generation of the Jazz. If choosing AT, opt for the 1.5L model as the 1.3L model has the same fuel consumption but with less features.
