The downside of having displacement when you need is that during the times that you just need a sedate truck, you still pay for higher fuel bills.

Bigger displacement does NOT necessarily mean more fuel consumption compared to smaller dispacement engines chief.

Take note that the straight 4-cylinder engine (unlike the boxer-type 4) requires two balancing shafts that rotate twice the speed of the crankshaft to keep it running balanced.... These two shafts are robbing off power from the engine, and as such it is not as powerful as a straight-5 cylinder with equal displacement. A straight-5 is the best compromise between an inline-4 and the smooth-running straight-6 configuration. A straight 5 also can be designed from modules of the two engines straightaway. It is more fuel efficient, as there's not much friction losses from it compared to the inline-4 and V6. Ford Motors has reasons why it chose to adapt this engine for the Ranger 3.2 TDCi.

Would you think the 2.5-litre Nissan Navara YD25DDTi "Hi-Power" (174 metric-hp, 403 Nm) consumes lesser fuel than the other 3.0-and 3.2-litre CRDi's in the market, or still existing in the roads/offroads today? The Navara is actually the thirtiest and pollutes the most compared to all other pickups (see fuel mileage and carbon footprint). This is the result of a 4x4 diesel utility pickup shootout comparo in Australia in 2009. All pickups were also tested in soft sands, engaged fully in 4x4 mode. Fuel supply in Oz ranges from Euro 4 to 5 compliance.

You may inquire about it Sir Soyti75 with Ford dealers (Alabang and Quezon Ave).

May nagsabi sa akin (a TopGear PH member) na ang Ranger 3.2 is discreetly on offer na sa Pinas. Don't know though if it's true. Pegged price at PhP1.5 M, mahal ng kaunti sa Hilux 3.0 D-4D 4x4. Mukhang tinatapan talaga ang solid na Hilux hehe.

Also sir, do not settle for the car that you don't like, even when the car that you're waiting for is not yet available for offer. BECAUSE, by the time that it arrives, by then you could be twice as much short on money in buying it ---- e.g. Say you settled at first for another brand at PhP1.30 M, and then the Ranger 3.2 did finally arrive and the price is at PhP1.5 M. Instead of you just paying forward PhP1.50 M straightway fo a utility pickup, by then, you are already spending somewhere in the order of PhP2.80 M, or more if on loan, for just a utility pickup, unless luckily you sold off your current pickup at the same price you got it, but you won't of course hehe....

    Cheers!

    OT:

ano ka ba beni23... sabi ko nga dati eh binubully yan dati... being a psychology practitioner... ganyan na ganyan ang CHARACTER/HABITS ng mga yan (we've observed hundreds of people with the same case)... binubully dati kaya kelangan magcompensate sa ibang bagay para "feeling" nila matanggap ng ibang tao...

they show that they are very capable/knowledgeable (and sometimes, they really are, as in kinacareer yan) in something for them to "feel" accepted... nagmamagaling sa mga bagay (at kung minsan magaling talaga)...

madalas wala gaanong friends... kung may pamilya man, sila lang ang laging kasama and madalas kasing-ugali rin ang wife/husband (same experiences)...

trying hard to make friends but after a while (and this is almost always the case) will find fault in their friends and end up destroying their relationship altogether... kaya napansin mo, ala silang kakampi lagi and trying hard to appease other "new" people (taong di pa nila alam ang ugali nya/nila) and in the end biglang magiging kaaway nya uli...

what's dangerous is this... ONLINE FORUM pa lang ito... di pa ito IRL (in real life)... just imagine how FUNNY it will be pag nakita mong nakikipagtalo ito sa mga kasama niya sa bahay or sa kaibigan niya (kung meron man)...

I never said this was an absolute rule. But yes, in general, higher displacements, more cylinders, and higher outputs often lead to higher fuel consumption.

You can rant all about your theoretical 5-cylinder bullcrap all you want, but I'll bet you my right kidney that the Ranger 3.2 consumes more fuel than a Hilux 2.5G, ceteris paribus.
