From your options, I'd go for the 3.0L 4x4. But I'd rather the 2.7L 4x2.

Ako....5.2 to 5.6 km/liter lang sa 2.7vvti ko. But usually 2km lang ang takbo ko from home to office....traffic pa.

it's not that much of a problem... if you're the type of driver that likes to race between traffic lights malamang lalakas ka din sa fuel consumption. It really depends on your driving habit.

on the brighter side, compact SUVs like CRV, x-trail are also in the same consumption range. at least sa Fortuner standing tall ka na, mid-SUV ka pa.

i've spoken to my cousin who is a former supervisor at nissan, sabi nya mas matipid daw ang 3.0 compared to 2.5 because of the power to rate ratio, same thing na sinabi din ng ahente sa toyota balintawak. imagine sa 3.0konting apak mo lang sa gas pedal makukuha mo na yung lakas na gusto mo compared to 2.5 kailangan mas mataas yung rpm(which means more fuel burned?) bago mo makuha yung lakas na ibinibigay ng 3.0 so to make sense mas makakatipid ka using 3.0. tama ba?

We are planning to buy Toyota Fortuner this month I just want to have some expert opinion which is a better buy a 2.5 4x2 or 3.0 4x4? we'll be using it often for city driving, how bout the fuel consumption? malakas ba fuel consumption sa 3.0 or halos no diff with 2.5?

With mainly city driving, you are better off with the 2.5li. In city and traffic conditions, the 2.5 li has better fuel consumption rate compared to the 3.0li. In highways, the 2.5 li still has the edge.

The 2.5 li has some serious inherent defects with it, so are you willing to take the risk? See this thread for more details:

Stay away from the 2.5 d4d. It has a measly 102 HP.

    It's best you go for the 3.0 d4d (163 HP) or the 2.7 vvt-i (160 HP).

In this day and age of rising fuel consumption, the 2.5 li will really help you save a $ignificant amount of money in the long run. With Manila's traffic, even a 1.1li is sufficient to navigate through the congestion. More horses mean bigger engine displacement which in turns means higher fuel consumption.

Btw, If you read the comments from owners using the 2.5li engine, most of them claim it is sufficient for their needs (which is city driving).

for city driving, it is very useful when another driver with a car is chasing you with a gun

Not really, but 102 HP is a little too low for something the size and weight of the Fortuner. It's better to have it (power) and not need it, than need it and not have it.

    Amen.

You don't always buy a car, so if you can afford the high end variant go for it.
