I am planning on buying our first car later this year and because of budget constraints I am choosing between a Mitsubishi Mirage G4 GLX and Toyota Vios J, both MT. I would like to ask how would you assess the value of both cars after 10 years if I plan to sell it then?

I am also thinking if I can squeeze in some more for a Vios E or the new City 1.5 E. Resale value is one of the things I am considering. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Both should have good resale value, but depends on how you use it. Mirage returning good FC and Vios being a "Toyota" But why would you buy a car based on its resale value? After 10 years madami na model ang lalabas bababa pa presyo niyan, honda Sir lang ata alam ko na hindi pa bumababa presyo e

The philosophy of buying a car is that you want to own it and drive it....

Not to buy........ and sell.... Ten years is way down the road to plan for (or even think of), in this time and age....

And besides, no one here knows which is still a better ride after ten years....

agree with CVT. napakatagal ng 10 years to think about resale value.

but to give you an idea, browse ******* and check selling prices of cars with model year 2004.

since you plan to own the car for 10 years, choose one that is reliable and at the same time, fun to drive.

Thanks sa mga input mga Sir!

Resale value is not the only thing I considered. Since pasok naman pareho yung dalawang cars, why not factor in the resale value. From that value marami na rin makukuhang info dun.
578k kasi yung Mirage G4, 630k naman yung Vios J. 52k difference. Eh baka after ilang years around 100k na difference nung value nila so mas sulit na bilhin yung isa dun. Although malamang Vios pa rin mas mahal nun. I just don't know by how much.

Ten years from now? Probably less than 200k each by then. Maybe a few thousand pesos difference between the two cars.

while the vios may have a history that you can base your used car figures on, the mirage is a totally new car platform. in my opinion, the used car market value of the mirage in the philippines after 10 years, is "up in the air".
but if i were the buyer of a car, my main factors to consider would be the driving experience, and reliability and repair-ability.

Only car? Para sa akin City > Vios > Mirage. City's AT trumps the Vios'. Also, the present Vios is not as fuel thrifty as the first two generations.

why worry about resale value 10 years from now?

sa akin.. non issue ang resale value.. ang mahalaga kung paano mo ginamit ang sasakyan at kung magkano nagastos mo sa mga repairs etc for 10 years.. kung nakaka 12K mileage ka per year.. so that's 120,000kms for 10 years and walang major repairs.. yan sulit na sulit na yan.. kahit benta mo na lang nang 100T sasakyan after 10 years.. kasi napakinabangan mo namang mabuti.. compared to say 5K per year.. eh di 50,000kms for 10 years lang yan.. tapos resale value eh nasa 150T.. kahit malaki yung resale value mo nang 50T.. eh 50T kms mo lang naman nagamit kesa don sa una na 120T kms..

just buy the car and use it.. worry about the resale value pag bebenta mo na..

using online calculator.. this assumes the depreciation value of both cars are the same or market demand is the same..

    Vios J MT, Purchase Price = P630,000

    Price After 10 years:

    Low Depreciation = P180,994.12
    Ave. Depreciation = P112,357.38
    High Depreciation = P60,881.16

Mirage G4 GLX MT, Purchase Price = P578,000

    Price after 10 years:

    Low Depreciation = P166,054.92
    Ave. Depreciation = P103,083.44
    High Depreciation = P55,856.05

After 10 years I would say the Vios would be worth more and be easier to sell. Madali naman upgrade yung fog lamps at stereo in the future. Plus sa mirage nde pa natin alam ang long term reliability nya.

Ako sa tingin ko Mirage G4. At first tingin ko either quits lang or kung meron mang difference konte lang or negligible. But if we factor in the savings you'll get with the more fuel efficient Mirage G4 tingin ko mas mas mataas ng konte re-sale value ng Mirage after 10 years. Yung so-called tipid sa PMS sa CASA pag Toyota? Pag tapos na ang warranty wala na yung so-called mas matipid sa Toyota CASA and since you plan to use it for 10 years before selling it eh mahahabol mo rin yung na tipid ng Vios sa CASA pag sa talyer mo na i-PMS Mirage G4 mo pag out of warranty na. If you sell it after 10 years yun din magiging selling point mo sa pag bebentahan mo.

Diba?

Binebase lang kasi ng iba yung past resale value ng previous Toyota models w/c are indeed good BUT read the diff. online reviews and personal experience of current Vios owners. Malaki binaba ng fuel efficiency ng new Vios compared to the previous model. Kung ano man tinipid kuno sa PMS sa CASA sa Vios na good for 2-3 years lang naman bawing-bawi mo yan sa tipid mo sa gas in 10 years of use.

Opinion ko lang. So, Mirage G4.

    This. Pretty much this.

Resale value of Toyotas are typically good BECAUSE most Toyotas are fuel efficient and easy to maintain. Notice... resale value of the gasoline Avanza is not really that great versus the Innova (in terms of percentage of value retained), and the resale value of Corolla 2.0s, Camries and Fortuner 2.7s are really not that great compared to other Toyotas.

Then, consider... if we assume 15,000 kms a year... and the Vios 1.3 MT gets around 11 km/l in city traffic (being VERY generous... my testing, the 1.3 gets about 21 km/l max on the highway) and the Mirage G4 gets between 12-13 km/l (very possible... my testing, about 25+ on the highway and 12+ in traffic), then you're looking at an extra 60,000 - 110,000 pesos worth of gasoline bought over a ten year period.

There's no way the price difference between the two will be any bigger than that after ten years. And since this is the manual Mirage, which doesn't have any big question marks about CVT durability, I'm betting resale value will be close to equal to the Vios at the end of that time period. Which means that, even if the Vios is the nicer car, you will likely spend 150,000 to 200,000 more on it over a ten year period.

I'd personally get the Vios, because I don't give a crap about resale value.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Think about how you can even keep your car for 10 years.

Since there are no other considerations except resale value, I can consider both of them to have Php00.00 value after 10 years. Then, I may get the Vios. The reason is obvious.

either of the 2 choices its still a good buy. it depends on how will you maintain the car for ten years. for fuel efficiency i agree to iceblue, the current vios is a gas guzzler. some new owners were disappointed with the fc they get. because of its increase body weight with the old engine.

10 years? magkaaabot yan.... almost pareho na yan.
as i've observed, a 10 year old car costs around 130-150k.

basta alagaan mo nang mabuti ang tsikots, regular maintenance and replacement of needed parts, you should get fair value come the time you sell it. wag mo na lang lagyan ng kung anu-anong borloloy since hindi yun makakatulong (masyado) sa resale value niya later on.

unless you have something against used cars, getting a low-mileage, one-year old car (vios!) is an option you might consider.
that way, you will escape the biggest depreciation of all (the first year).
and since it's only a year old, almost brand new pa, 'ika nga..

    good luck on your search.
