Siempre Dmax chief!
Runs in maintenance-free timing gear-and-chain, wala kang kaba.... Yang Hilux at Strada in timing belts. Medyo kakaba-kaba ka na before even reaching every 100,000-km mark....
....Resulta ng patid na timing belt sir, while you're running - alam mo na, engine seizure, sira piston mo at cylinder pag napabayaan. Pag napatid na yan, huwag na huwag pilitin i-start sir si Hilux o si Strada (not the 3.2-litre 4M41 though that runs in timing chain as well), lalaki lalo sira niyan sa loob.... Make no mistake about it, as a family, we have had Toyota's, Isuzu's and Mitsubishi's
Kung FC pinag-uusapan, wala ng mas titipid pa sa Dmax. 11.7 km per litre daw si misis sa Dmax even in Metro Manila driving, kasama pa daily morning standstill warm-ups diyan as we never load the engine until it is within its operating temperature. It is also the only one in the market na "long-stroke" diesel. Almost ka-stroke length nito ang 3.2-litre 4M41 na makina ng Mitsubishi. Pinag-kaiba lang significantly ay ang bore size ng cylinder.
As far as year model ng mga makina is concerned, here are as follows:
1. Strada - Year 1990's old 4D56 that was mated with a high-boost mechanical VGT. Puhunan ng 178 hp niya ay "boosting", en tonses....
2. Hilux - Year 2001 1KD-FTV diesel intercooled (for the 3.0-litre D-4D) and it already comes standard with a variable nozzle turbocharger since its conception (VNT or VGT, it's just the same banana.... Honeywell yata gumawa ng VNT). The 1KD-FTV is also shared with the Toyota Prado, only that the engine in the Prado is tweaked-out, kaya malakas kaysa sa Hilux's 1KD-FTV.
3. Dmax (Philippine-issue) - Year 2004 4JJ1-TC that comes only with a wastegate turbocharger. It was designed primarily just for better fuel consumption and lower carbon emission not for earth-shaking peak performance (the Dmax has the lowest carbon emission, while the Navara pollutes the highest). The one with the VGT is not sold here. This is the one you see in Thailand before the Dmax RT-50 came out. What we have here in Pinas is a 2nd-generation behind engine wahehehehe.... The one with the VGT is a tweaked-out 4JJ1-TC in 2005 then released in 2006, dubbed as 4JJ1-TCX or 4JJ1-TC "hi-power".
Cheers! Goodluck sa choices mo sir.
It's looking a lot like a certain cruiser with that color scheme.
