Fasten your seatbelt! Or else...Driven To Thrill!
The only advantage of the montero sport and fortuner is looks and ground clearance, but really do you need that much ground clearance and off road capability? 90% of ms and fort owners haven't even driven their cars on an unpaved road let a lone take it offroad. That's just a stupid excuse of people who thinks their car is the best and can't accept the fact that the santa fe is a much much better overall car.
Santa fe has a better ride, more comfortable, better build quality, more leg room, more reliable, more powerful engine than both the montero sport and fortuner.
But hey if you like the montero or fort go ahead buy it, it's your money and you're the one who'll use it. Im not saying that montero and fortuner are bad cars, all im saying is the santa fe is a better car than both.

ano po ang pinaka magandang engine sa kanila in terms of reliability and performance? lalo na po sa mga pataas na roads. ^_^
Santa Fe 2.2R e-VGT CRDi: 197ps and 436Nm
Montero Sport 2.5DID VGT: 178ps and 350Nm (400Nm for M/T)
Fortuner 2.5D4D: 102ps and 260Nm (163ps and 343Nm for 3.0D4D)
Aside from being the most powerful, the Santa Fe's engine employs a Bosch CRDi system which is more reliable as compared to Denso for the Fortuner (Montero Sport ba gumagamit ng Denso? I'm not so sure) which is known to have cases of injector failures.
Ang problema lang sa Santa Fe, anytime soon lalabas na yung ALL NEW... Any news kung kailan? 2012 or 2013???
But then kapag may all new na, di kaya mas mahal nanaman yan? That is unless the K-AFTA takes effect on time.
I got my fortuner G for 3 and a half years already still all stock, didn't get a single problem with it, its performance is the same as it was before. I just drive, put gas, and follow pms nothing else... just my 2 cents
My vote goes to santafe but wait for the all new santafe its coming very soon.
I was in the same situation 5 months ago. I evaluated all 3 + Sorento and test drove all of them. In the end, I picked Santa Fe and it was the best decision I made. The worries that many people have on Santa Fe is that it's next gen is already coming soon, and that it's priced slightly higher than MS and Fortuner. These qualms though will be replaced with satisfaction once you've seen and test-driven the unit.![]()
The irony is, the Kia Pride is a Mazda/Ford based car. And it's not unreliable when used as intended. In taxi use, they break because they're overworked and overloaded... and even then, they're dirt cheap to maintain. A friend had one that they sold after a decade of trouble-free motoring.
The Kia Picanto, even better.

Hyundai designs its own engines. Its early engines were Mitsubishi, but by the early 90's, they were developing their own in-house (which weren't very good) and by the 2000s, they were a co-equal partner in the GEM alliance... by the late 2000's, they were developing their own V6 and V8 engines in-house (the 3.8 V6 in the Genesis is fantastic) and they were supplying engines to Mitsubishi instead of the other way around.
Not every Japanese car is a Honda or a Toyota... and even then... Honda 90's automatic transmission issues... Honda CR-V differential and engine mount issues... Honda overheat issues and charging issues due to undersized radiator and battery on the EK Civic... Toyota ZZ-engine sludge issues. Toyota D4D issues and the rear axle recall on the IMVs... ES Civic cam-position sensor issues... fuel tank straps and electric bugs... Nissan Sentra 89 suspensions... Nissan's expensive and weak AC compressors... Mitsubishi suspensions, idle-air control... hell... almost everything electronic under the hood... on the 98-00 Lancer.
Pero balewala yan sa mga tao. Japanese ang mga yan. Perfect yan. At kung may problema, ah... alam namin yan. Alam namin ang solusyon.
That's all they're saying. They're saying Japanese are better because they are familiar with them and know where to buy the parts.
Hyundai ain't perfect. I still don't like their suspensions (bushings too soft... like Honda or Mazda), but the Santa Fe is one of the best rated secondhand values in the Kelley Blue Book in the US, and is one of the more reliable cars on the market, earning the coveted Consumer Reports' "Recommended" badge and was one of their "Ten Best" a while back.
Great off-roader? Hell no. The Santa Fe is about as suited for off-road use as a CR-V. But in terms of space, comfort, power and economy, nothing in this class can beat it except its twin, the Kia Sorento... which is more expensive.

Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
Looks like you've been asking the wrong, bigotic, and technophobic mechanics.
Technology evolves but apparently, your mechanics don't. If that's your way of thinking, just stick to old Isuzu engines that are slow and smoke too much kasi yun lang siguro ang mga kabisado ng mechanics mo.
To add to Niky's post:
How come andaming nagpapalit ng makina?
My list can grow longer, mind you.
I know someone who owns an 1990 CD5 (bought brand new back then) and super tahimik and tipid sa gas pa rin hanggang ngayon.
Montero FTW. It has "killer" features like "sudden acceleration" hehe
Back to topic:
Interior? - Sta Fe
Exterior? - Fort
Safety? - Sta Fe
Comfy? - Definitely NOT the FORT.
Fuel consumption? - Sta Fe hands down
Cargo space? - I'd go for the one with the floor-level flat folding rear seats
rear camera? - Sta Fe
Oh dear, here we go again. Then we'll have never ending posts telling of the battle between Korean and Japanese brands...Some people are just not open to change. Another thing I have against the Fortuner is that they are quite overpriced. For the 102hp 2.5D4D A/T variant, you will be shelling out a very solid 1.408M which, I believe is the one the TS is aiming at. And then for the 76hp more powerful Montero Sport GLS-V, you add just 10k over the Fortuner's price for the 2011 variant with rear drums and 4 speed A/T and 40k for the 2012 variant with rear discs and 5 speed A/T. For the Montero Sport, it is the age old tendency of the 4D56 to emit black smoke, which I often see with Montero Sport's (which I also sometimes see with 2.5L Fortuner's though never yet with the 3.0). The Santa Fe is way forward in terms of technology over the two. When the 1st gen came out in Korea in 2000 it already featured CRDi, five years before the Fortuner was introduced. By 2006 the 2nd gen featured CRDi along with VGT and a 5 speed A/T, again five years before the Montero Sport VGT was introduced (with much hype and fanfare) with similar technology when the Santa Fe has already moved on during the previous year with the introduction of e-VGT and a 6 speed A/T. And then now the new version is coming and who knows what new stuff it will bring. Sure, Hyundai engines may have lots of electronic parts which makes it impossible for manong at the talyer by the corner to repair the more serious stuff, but considering that Toyota and Mitsubishi both utilize CRDi as well, what makes them any different?
for me all three cars are good each one of them has their own special performance and appeal to the people it depends on how they see each car . the sta fe is fast and refined even as a front wheel drive car based except 4x4 or awd. as for the other two rear wheel drives strong and durable such as the fortuner and montero sport their designs are nice and yes even the fortuner is tag tag as they say it is strong and durable and is powerful the montero is a good suv and accelerates good its a good car because a lot of people buy it now a days which is a fact and same for the 2 in my humble opinion sana medyo linowered and monty sport so it will look a bit more furiouse and not too tall and sa front litaw ang mga springs and coil and certain part of the suspension.
so in performance wise the sta fe is fast even its fwd or 4x4 awd for a advance engine like that imagine 4 cylinders lang yun kasi nabasa ko ehe . correct me if im wrong can produce such power and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 10 seconds plus or less depende syempre . and laki ng car fwd pa diba and rides more like a sedan since its structure and suspension is different from the 2 cars BUT in offroading it can be a little bit slippy especially in muddy and rocky terrains.but its a good car talaga kasi even medyo mabigat sa bulsa people buy it. you can tell pag maganda ang car pag marami bumibili kahit mahal siya pero lets considers the other factors also.
fortuner is a big heavy strong suv and sells also like hot cakes A RWD suv accelerates fast and matibay pero medyo rough and bumpy ang ride pero thats not too much to bother or be a major problem except pag mabaho and nakakahilo ang air freshener syempre thats a big nono going back to the topic its a nice fair and a affordable suv for value and money. fast when fast the gas version is quite silent and less bumpy smooth din ang ride its all about choice and factors din. but its a very good ride.
montero sport is cool handsome car yes its quite appealing to the public eye and buyers kasi ang dami eh in the roads homes and else wear. my comment about this suv it handles nice and fast din softy like the strada and a bit bumby sa certain roads because correct me if im wrong again ehe its from a strada or born from the strada so strada based siya kaya its a nice car a rwd though should be a bit lower in the rear and sa front sana tinago a bit yung mga suspensions and srings kasi medyo litaw pero no problem ehe anyway ofroading capabilities quite good and in road handles well di ako sure sa gtv and vts or what ever ehe walana me alam sa mga yun all i can say its a good car and i would personaly buy this also pero syempre its a choice. kung i have lots off money i would buy all three. ehe
anyway sa gas not sure sta fe its engine refined and can save gas and good perfomance should be a contender .
the montero doesent look like it eats lots of gas a good choice also
the fortuner for me looks strong and heavy but toyota off course makes fine engines so it would not hurt you pocket so much. ehe
all three are best
I LOVE ALL THREE CARS BUT OF COURSE there should be a winner pero its not for me to decide its up to you guys bastat agree ako in all three pero sta fe more one euro styling siya now adays kasi medyo like it or not nag level up siya especialy the dual exhaust adds a sports car audi or benz like appeal. adds points also eheh share lang sana and fort and monty meron din anyway im sorry kung may wrong spelling or grammar or errors and mistakes tao lang Good luck po sainyo .
