hey peeps, about a year ago i sought for inputs from you guys on which is a better buy between a boxster s or a z4. i got feedback and no regrets i got the right one, super thanks. this time i'm torn between a bmw x5 2003 diesel matic (about 2.1M) and a land rover range rover hse 2003 matic (about 3M). i need one that suits my lifestyle, it will be mostly driven by my driver daily and by me on weekends. i'm considering the following factors: comfort as a passenger, driving ease, maintenance, consumption, beauty and speed. thanks in advance for your helpful feedback

So... which did you get?

Comfort as a passenger - Range Rover

Driving ease - X5

Maintenance - Uh... neither, but the Range Rover could be worse... depends on the exact condition of the unit

Consumption - Unless the Rover is the new TDi, the X5 is miles better

Beauty - is in the eye of the beholder

Speed - X5

Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

What are your primary concerns? Comfort or Performance?

BMW X5 handles the road much better and feels more powerful yet stable as a driver. This is more of road car than an offroad vehicle, especially with it's original spec road tires.

Range Rover would be more comfortable with it's softer suspension but it will lean in the curves more. It would understeer at the limit of performance. This vehicle would be "capable" on and off the road/dirt.

I have driven both types of vehicles although not the same year model as you are choosing from. I strongly suggest you test drive both vehicles for yourself over as much type of road terrain as you can find. Each person's taste is as different as there are types of cars on the road.

My personal choice between the two options: BMW X5

niky, i got the yellow boxster s as it got more votes than the z4. see i listen to tsikoteers as i'm not a car connoisseur, i just fancy on what is beautiful to me =)

hmmmm seems like you 2 are leaning more towards the x5. it would be more for city driving only. i've tried driving both and it only gave me more confusion haha. i like the appeal of the range rover but do you think the 1M price difference is worth it? is the gas comsumption that bad? pls enlighten me more. thanx much! =)

X5 for me too.

Expect Land Rover's consumption to be around 4-5km/L

BMW AG used to own land rover 1994-2000
Ford: 2000-2008
TATA India: 2008 - present

I really like the X5 because it looks expressive and it's a bimmer, especially if I'm driving it.

However, if I have money to burn, I'd get the Range Rover because it looks simply elegant. Plus, konti lang naka-Rover dito sa Pinas.

My two cents lang po...

Being different just for the sake of being different is just a formula for headache later.

For those voting for either X5 or RR, how many of you actually have driven or even ridden in one for a length of time?

I've ridden both..Range Rover from LA to Las Vegas..X5 from Manila to Baguio

The Range Rover's suspension is far better than the X5 but the X5 is faster..

Yeah. Land Rovers AFAIK are suckers for maintainance costs. But hey, if you have money to burn, whatever floats your boat! hehehe! (pero type ko din yung Escalade! hehehe!)

Sorry. I've been watching HBO's Entourage! hehehe!

IMHO, I'd rather have my vehicles that don't need a weekly maintenance schedule and ready to do anytime I turn the ignition key.

What engine does this X5 have? The old one with around 160 hp or the newer with about 220 hp?

The newer engine is just an absolute hoot... tons of torque, accelerates like a gasoline (that is until you've driven its V8 brother - haha), etc.

The X5 is fun, but the Rover just plain looks more exclusive...

The only problem with either is that they'll require a bit more work to take care of than your common Japanese SUV (heck, maintenance for a new Pajero or Prado is also pretty expensive)... I say, go where your heart leads you...

thanx so much for the replies, it really helps me weigh things. i agree iba ang dating ng range rover talaga, esp i've just seen quantum of solace but the maintenance thing bothers me, and the gas consumption is at par with expeditions'. it's true that the ride of the range is far better than the x5's especially when you're in the passenger seat because the latter has a faster torque. as for now, i'm leaning towards an x5, i'd rather go with a workhorse than a high maintenance pony =) this weekend though, my friend is lending me his range for a whole day of test drive to see if it fits my personality and if i'd still change my mind. again, thanks much, all your suggestions are greatly taken into consideration. i'll update you guys with what i end up with =)

+1

But for occasional off-road trips and city water fordings... RR would be better. But... the X5 can still meet the exclusivity factor. Anyway, both cars are great but I would lean towards the X5 because of the better dealer support.

If your budget is 3M, hehehe... If you ask me, I'd get myself the X5 and a P38A Range Rover.
P38A Rangie

To satisfy both?
