I have personally seen the Honda CRV copy in china. Externally it looks pretty much the same but the mechanicals are as far as you can get, leaf springs vs coil springs.
I just saw one of these china-made vehicles at the Fort today. It was a pick-up that looked strangely like the Isuzu D-max, but on stilts - as in lifted as high as a Hilux but with puny wheels. I thought it was one of those things made out of someone's backyard, the only difference being it was fully painted. The rear said "NEXUS" in really bold letters. Not very impressive even from afar.
somewhere on the other thread, one of the chinese manufacturers says it's just plain "COINCIDENCE" that his product looks similar to the product of the other japanese carmaker...
the smart car replica seems interesting. The Smart mini car costs about 1.7M here if im not mistaken. If an importer could sell the replica at around 200k....
nyaaaa...pag yan dumami at nagdagsaan dyan sa pinas at buy one take one pa...nakow...ayos yan biglang baba presyo ng oto mula toyota, honda, mitsu, hyundai atbp, di ba nagsimula na nga sa motorsiklo?he he hedi kaya yan ni duds manzano...
I think they have a law wherein if you want to invest and put up a manufacturing facility in china, you are obligated to divulge your processes and technology. Walang Intellectual Property Rights. This is why nakokopya nila kahit ano. For investors, this is the downside of china's very cheap manufacturing costs.
