Kung gas, baka Fortuner. Wala kasi akong bilib sa Toyota when it comes to Diesel engines, kahit sabihin pa nilang CRDi na ang nasa Fortuner, IMO

may natanong ako sa mitsu, d nila alm yung g wagon...i think mitsu will stick with the montero sport til it dies...a natural death(mid 90s car ito eh).

fortuner is the suv now, paladin is the old xterra in china(babato nanaman sa atin yung luma just like mitsu)

I'm told that, technically, the Alterra is not an SUV. Sport Utility Wagon daw s'ya... An SUW... It's long and seems to have a lower ground clearance than the Fortuner... I'll have to see this for myself.

I'm also told that the 4x2 Alterra is already P1.399M. Buti walang 4x2 na diesel and Fortuner, Isuzu Philippines still has a chance to target this niche.

But yung porma at makina yung mahalaga diba.. lalo na sa Pinoy.. And I think the suspension of the Fortuner (all coils) is better than the MU-7 (rear leaf).

what do you mean by "true-blooded tough SUV"? hehe. ladder frame, rear live axle, full time four-wheel drive, low range, brawny turbodiesel, A/T... sounds like a great recipe for a mountain-conquering truck :D

The Fortuner, Hi-Lux and Innova are basically ladder frame chassis for toughness as proven by previous Land Cruisers. Incidentally, the previous generation Hi-Lux was featured on TopGear at channel 23 some weeks back and subjected to various torture tests such as hitting a barn house, being hit by a wrecker ball on the side, plunging it in the river and restarting in with just minimal lubricant spray, torching the interiors and lifting the vehicle at the rooftop of a soon-to-be-collapsed 20 storey building and bombing the building thus burying the Hi-Lux under tons of rubble. Jeremy Carson, the funny host bet it would survive and still drive to their studio. NO ONE believed him until he had the vehicle run towards the center of the studio mangled but STILL RUNNING in ONE PIECE. What could possibly be tougher than this!

But, I think the 4x2 2.5L D4D Fortuner won't be Turbo-Intercooled... So, wala s'yang hoodscoop. Pero, commonrail diesel pa rin...

But, I think the 4x2 2.5L D4D Fortuner won't be Turbo-Intercooled... So, wala s'yang hoodscoop. Pero, commonrail diesel pa rin...

that would be one slow-ass ride... the VVTi's power output (160hp / 241Nm torque) is just enough for the Fortuner's. imagine the 2.5L (102hp / 260Nm) trying to pull all that.

AFAIK the Hilux featured in TOP Gear is an old one and very different from the new toyotas we see today as per materials used although architecture is still the same. Try doing that to the new Hilux or Fortuner, I doubt that it will last like the old Hilux featured. Yung kaha pa lang ng bagong Hilux "LATA" na. I could even dent it by just pressing a coin into its body.

I only reacted with the comparison of MU-7 and Fortuner kasi ala pa namang actual testing sa MU-7. It's safer to compare the two pag na-test drive na rin yung Mu-7. That's where the excitement is, comparing them head-to-head if they are worth comparing nga ba.

I talked with the head of the service dept at Toyota Otis and it is standard procedure to overinflate a vehicle during shipping and cargo transfer. Not only would it make the tires look better, but it allows easy maneuvering of the vehicle in the tight confines of the ship's cargo bay and moving it out of the ship. The tire pressure is checked before the vehicles is released to the buying customer. He also pointed out that bouncy ride and bump steer are really signs of overinflated tires. The driver door pillar (B pillar) shows the recommended tire pressure. Fortuner 30 psi on all tires, Hi- Lux 29 PSI on all tires, 36 PSI for rear if loaded with cargo. Innova 230 for all, if rear-loaded, increase to 250. He recommended following this tire pressure guide so ride comfort and handling won't be compromised.
