With the recent floods, I am considering getting another vehicle with high ground clearance.

    Gusto ko sana:

    1. Gasoline Engine pero hindi masyadong magastos sa gas (although I am considering diesel as well)
    2. Price Range below P300k (Although wala pang set budget so I might be able to go slightly higher pa)
    3. High Ground Clearance (not necessarily a 4x4)

What I am considering would be:

Gasoline Nissan Terrano of about year 2000 vs. Mitsubishi Adventure Gas latest year model (I think 2004 may gas pa yata)

Can anyone input me with the maintenance costs of these vehicles? Sirain ba sila?
Also, does anyone have other vehicles they would like to recommend with these requirements and anong pros and cons ng mga yan? Thanks

    P.S.
I chose gasoline to avoid the guys who like to catch smoke belchers. Second hand na kasi itong cars, kaya the gasoline cars will have less hassles.

You want something that's simply tall, or do you want something that's genuinely flood-worthy?

If it's simply tall, there are still many things that can happen. The alternator can conk out due to flood water (a gasoline engine car will not run without spark) or water can get in around the spark plug boots and cause misfiring. Or water may enter the cabin and cause the ECU to short.

If you want a flood-worthy vehicle, best bet is a diesel. If not, at least buy a gasoline SUV that's really meant for off-roading.

If you don't need an SUV, you can even get an early model Crosswind MT for 300k. The electricals are not very flood-worthy, but it's a mechanical injection pump, so it can run in up to waist deep water.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Ang gasoline engine mas takot talaga sa baha bro. Best gasoline bets for you would be the 1.8L Revo M/T or the 2.0L Adventure M/T, though the Revo has the edge in ground clearance. Yun nga lang, despite the ancient nature of both cars, both engines are EFI already, which means flood wading capability is very much compromised.

Tell you what, get a diesel Revo and then fit bigger tires on it to further boost the ground clearance. I find it the least smoky among the diesel AUV lot. Both the 4JA1 and 4D56 are notorious for their smoky habits. Ito kung umusok, linis linis lang. Kung ayaw mawala, calibration. Tiyak na aayos yan. Yung amin, tumatakbo ng 145km/h*4600rpm sa SCTEX, absolutely no smoke to be seen from the tailpipe.

Jimny is a relatively cheap gasoline powered suv that can really offroad and with the right setup can handle floods. A old school diesel pick up with a snorkel will also work. Dont know the current prices of 2nd hand cars.

at P300k that can be used on flooded streets?

i suggest you get a diesel engine with manual tranny.

with regards to the budget, a local gen 1 pajero will fit yours.
you can also try jdm converted vehicles.
but if you do look for converted ones, inspect the vehicle thoroughly (elecrical & mechanical) and choose the one that has the same local model (para madali ang spare parts).

    hth!

if this is going to be an alternative vehicle, to be used only during floods, then you are safe with a diesel. kapag nasa bokong-bokong na ang baha, ay siguradong walang sisita sa iyo.

The Jimny and Vitara are the closest you can get to a floodworthy gasolone vehicle. The alternators are high up on the engine for flood fording purposes, and the intakes are protected.

I would not buy an Expedition for floods. Those things are not designed for off-roading.

A 4D56 Pajero would work very well.

Wow, thanks for the suggestions. Ill consider the Pajeros. How about yung mga kalaban ng Pajero, yung Patrol and the Trooper? I noticed kasi that the old 1994 Patrol costs around 400k... baka pwede na yun... although baka mahirap parts ng mga ito. Are they as flood capable and ok pa rin ba parts ng mga ito?

here's my suggestion...since flood is your concern, the first thing comes up to my mind is pick-up vehicles.

    Mitsubishi L200

    price range from 150 - 200k

    or Mitsubishi Strada L200

same characteristics have like in the pajero, though it is really for total utility use..

This suggestion seems feasible. Anong year model itong ganitong price range?

The Patrol is a very good flood vehicle, but I find it too bulky for my taste. Despite all this, it doesn't have much cabin space. For your budget you'd be getting really old Troopers. And then again, most of the Troopers at that price range have the 3.2L V6 gasoline engine which, of course, drinks like there's no tomorrow. If converted is fine with you, JDM Bighorns will do well.

Like this one for example. 2004 Isuzu Trooper Bighorn LOTUS AT Sound Setup | Cars for sale Manila | AyosDito.ph

I am open to converted vehicles, pero my apprehensions lang:

    1. kamusta steering column nito?
    2. Kamusta brakes system nito?
    3. Madali ba yung spare parts nito?

Since the bighorn never come out in the Philippines, what parts did they use to convert it? May spare parts ba tayong pwedeng isubstitute dito?

these, plus the quality of conversion, are the exact reasons why some people shun converted vehicles..
of course, conversion can be done according to factory specs. they even have company-blessed conversion kits available.. but it won't be cheap..

Depends on the model you buy. Best get something that has a local counterpart, or at least has a model sold locally that shares many parts with it. To make sure it is safe, be sure that there is no cut and weld.

The Bighorn did come to the Philippines, under the Trooper nameplate. AFAIK, the Bighorn name was used for RHD markets.

But then as sir niky said, that is if you really like that certain converted vehicle, or the AUVs and pickups within your budget do not appeal to you.

Ok ang Jimny kung walang current yung flood water, pero kung may agos better ang mga uplifted pick ups.

I dont have an Adve Gas, but looking at it's resale value versus diesel model of same age... mukhang mas problematic ang gas models..especially sa FC. I suggest you go for diesel types. No worry sa baha compared sa gas models.

oo nga e. Im starting to read on the forums na malakas daw talaga gas na advie sa FC. Its sad that mitsubishi just stopped producing it instead of working to improve their FC or instroducing it with a newer generation of more fuel efficient gas engines.

Why go through all the trouble when you can get a simple, robust, reliable and cheap diesel pickup or AUV locally?
