the getz crdi might make a good taxi special.. at 628k it's significantly cheaper than either the matrix or accent..

my brother bought this just about 3 days ago: (pasensya na sa pics, took it using a camphone)

    Hyundai Getz 1.5 CRDi 16-Valve

    - with Power Windows, Door Locks, Side Mirrors, Keyless Entry Alarm
    - JVC Stereo with MP3
    - Foglights
    - Dark Grey with Silver Trims Interiors and Blue lights

    My initial review

    - good aircon. malamig.
    - when you're inside, it feels like you're driving a bigger sedan like a civic.
    - the quiet-est diesel engine na na-drive ko. it drives almost like a gasoline-powered sedan.
    - we had it full tanked. after 35km hindi pa din bumaba ang fuel meter needle.
    - very responsive. quick acceleration. I'm quite surprised coz this is a diesel.
    - engine noise is minimal when inside.
    - my bro has been cd writing/archiving Mp3 CDRoms since 2002 pa. we tried the old CD's on the JVC MP3 stereo, and yakang-yaka pa din kahit may mga gasgas na yun cd's.
    - comes with a spoiler on the top of backwindow (without brake lights though)
    - very comfy front seats.
    - interiors are presentable and like new cars sprouting today, this hyundai does have a long dash.

    Cons:
    - no airbags
    - steering wheel medyo mas heavier paikutin than civic/crv.
    - too soft yun clutch
    - you can't fit a golf bag in it kahit na naka-collapse yun backseats
    - no temperature gauge. only led message lights, blue for stable, red for overheat (accdg. to manual)

over all, I'm still looking forward to drive this car sa urban traffic. it's so manuverable. I test drove it at the back of Megamall on a Friday night. can weave in and out of traffic with ease. sarap manehuhin. if you're passenger and you dont have any idea about the specs of this car, i'm sure you'd be surprised when I tell you that we are riding a diesel-powered car hehehe.

on initial testing we are so satisfied with the performance of Hyundai CRDi. bec. of this, I'm becoming more and more interested in what the Hyundai Tucson CRDi has to offer.

SRP is 628,000. but we got it at 620k including keyless alarm, seat cover, mats, plastic black visors sa side windows. tint is also free but my brod didnt get it na.

the new Hyundai's have really improved much over the years. and in touting much better Torque/ fuel efficiency than Japanese marque's (though its comparing it with Petrol engine so its not really an apple to apple comparison) makes u really see understand they'r very serious in dominating the market. during the testdrive i could attest the car has gobs of Torque once its on-boost (which happens quickly) w/o much delay. but over-loading the engine (a low speed on 2nd. gear) still show's its much of a smaller displacement - 1.5li, at that same speed on a 2.5D Mitsu Adventure or Revo with 2.4li will fare better. but once on boost hanep talaga. but in the end, i won't be compromising personal safety just so i could have a torque engine. the items sorely missing are [rear disc brakes, ABS/EBD, AirBags] IMO.

Niky..have you seen the chevy aveo limited edition.
Quite a looker and has a auto tranny. How does it fare with the Getz and the Matrix?

Haven't driven it, but I've heard the engine is gruff and the suspension simple. I'd place my bets on it being comparable in performance to the Getz 1.4, but with higher fuel consumption. The Matrix (both versions) or Getz diesel are better value for money.

yeah the pricing of the 1.5 aveo is ludicrous. mag jazz ka nalang kung ganun din ang presyo. the optra does seem to be a better bet with the singapore fuel maps. just average looking but at under 700k for a 1.6L sedan it can't be beat! 4 wheel disc brakes pa.. it is smaller inside than the corolla, civic, mazda3... though.

Oo nga... at 10+ km/l, it's not bad for the price... If you want an Optra, though... get one secondhand, as resale values are through the floor because of the gas guzzling issue.

Buy it off the previous owner, take it to the casa... presto! You've got a decent car for very little money.

10km/liter na ang optra ngayon? akala ko nasa 6-7 km/liter lang. If the aveo's mileage is km/liter maganda nayun para sa akin...

Reportedly (search for the Optra Behemoth Fuel Consumption thread), there is an ECU upgrade available to cure the guzzling blues. I'm trying to independently verify this through an acquaintance now.

As stock, though, old Optras still guzzle, and some of the newer ones might still be the same. We're not really sure just yet. It's only when a reputable source reviews the current facelifted Optra and/or Optra Wagon and checks fuel consumption can we be sure of this.

If this "cure" can be properly documented, then hallelujah, there's some life in the old Daewoo... oops... Chevy, yet!

just an update, my brod had his getz crdi full tanked * 45 liters. 317 kms later, nasa half-full pa yun fuel meter needle. all city driving manila pasig qc san juan. so roughly mga 14km/liter city driving with daily normal traffic.

kasama ba RS sa mga older vehicles na you want to dispose, PM me kapag dispose mo hehehehe (alam kong marami ng nagtanong sa yo nyan but magbakasakali pa rin ako)

sa napipintong pagtaas ng gas, i'm really considering getting a getz crdi. although I'm driving a vios 1.3E na sobrang tipid din sa gas, gusto ko pa rin magpalit kung mas makakatipid talaga.

Better yet, nasa sidewalk na ang mga tsikot... just like the scooters!

Grabe, okay ang fuel consumption na yan, ah! Just okay, considering it's a 1.5, but great considering the hp and torque it produces. Siguro mas efficient pa siiya after break in and once he's started taking long trips.

EDIT: *Pro Staff: Nope... hehe... what other car can I bring on 6 hour road trips, do 200 km/h in, and still hit 10 km/l with? Though it's kind of thirsty in city traffic (averaging 8-9 km/l), I'm still happy with its consumption otherwise.

I'm trying to dispose of a 626 (still torn about this... nice big comfy car, same engine as the RS... just don't have the budget to maintain so many) and am trying to get a hold of and dispose my dad's 1.4 EX Sentra, Daewoo Racer GTi (I know, I know... ...kind of late for that), among others.

But if you're looking for a speed kick, I know a guy selling his limited edition Civic 2.0 AT (the pearl white one) at just 6000km. With a Fortuner and a RAV4, he doesn't really need it... and he's got his eyes on the new one.

AFAIK, not really a good deal. While it's true that in the long run, diesel will still be cheaper than gas, it'll still go up in price, so your savings won't be great enough in the long run to justify the hit in the wallet you'll get for trading in the Vios... though gas prices are getting high enough that you might be able to unload the Vios at a pretty good price.

    too true.

i've been figuring out what sort of savings i'll obtain by swapping the guzzly (7.5km/L) 626 for a matrix which i estimate at 12km/L and diesel at that.

with the kind of mileage i'm doing, it translates to about 2000 pesos savings per month. which is simply far too small to cover the large initial and continuing expenditure. of course i'd be getting a much much newer car, but what with my newfound respect for Colayco and Kiyosaki, it still really doesn't make sense economically.

scooter lang talaga ang pantapat sa mataas na gas prices. yun nga lang sobrang blue-collar. :P

on a side-note, i've been a bit interested in "tubular space frame" chassis. you know that DIY car idea i had before.. use a Super Carry engine and tranny (RWD at that!) and you have the beginnings of a zippy mid-engine roadster! Smart Roadster wannabe! hahahaha! or more practically, make a tiny city car (Smart Car wannabe) using primitive suspension and cheap parts. i was shocked to learn that Besta shocks only cost 600 pesos each (compared to say 3000 for ordinary car struts). think something like "the owner-type jeep for the new millennium."
