May 5th, 2015 12:05 AM #1HYPOTHETICAL: Buy three 1-1.5M cars over 15 years (replace and buy one every 5 years) or buy one toyota landcruiser lc200 now and keep it for 15 years?
Like for example, i buy a brand new 2015 mu-x now then after 5 years i sell it to get a brand new 2020 fortuner or the like. Then after 5 years i sell the fortuner to get a 2025 forester.
Or is it also of sound logic that i get a brand new 2015 lc200 now then keep it for fifteen years?
Will it still have a "dating" 10 years from now than a brandnew 1.5m car? Will it still command more respect than a 2025-2030 fortuner/forester/ms/tb and the likes?
Circumstances:
Personal car. Daily driven(asphalt hi-way). Small family.

May 5th, 2015 12:17 AM #2i'd buy a new car every 5 years!
1. new car = new technology.
2. new car = 3 year warranty.
3. new car = truly worry-free driving for a few years.
4. think of how it will look good as a tax shelter!
5. respect? few 10 year old cars command as much respect as a new car. except for a few models, a 10 year old car is a... 10 year old car!

New car every 5 years since this will be by daily driver for the same reason stated by dr d. It's such a treat to buy a new car
If it's an extra car, I'll get the LC200.

May 5th, 2015 12:39 AM #4Check ko kung maalala ko pa math ko.
Let's compare buying a P 3M car and keep for 15 years against buying a P 1M car and keeping for 5 years done thrice. Assume depreciation at 10% annually.
The value of the P 3M car in 15 years is 3,000,000 x 0.9^15 = P 617,673.39. I lose P 2,382,326.61.
The value of the P 1M car in 5 years is 1,000,000 x 0.9^5 = P 590,490. I lose P 409,510 every time. And equals P 1,228,530 when done thrice.
It seems that I lose less money if I buy cheaper cars but change every 5 years. Or mali math ko. . .hehe

May 5th, 2015 12:42 AM #5That LC200 will still command presence but medyo alangan na gawin daily driver even if religiously maintained, it's still a 15 year old car. I'd go for the new car every 5 years, you can even extend that to 7-8 years and still be good. Money saved is money saved.

May 5th, 2015 12:56 AM #6New car din ako. Sarap pa ng feeling ng bagong sasakyan papalit palit. Wala pa ang gas, insurance, rehistro sa computation

If everyday driving po ang usage, much better na mag-replace ng sasakyan every 5yrs, (due to maintenance/wear and tear ng mga parts/components)
which is more practical, pag daily usage kasi, mataas lagi ang wear and tear, and mas mataas na ang cost ng maintenance later pag umabot na sa higher mileage.
kung low mileage user, every 10yrs and above for replacement.
Kung LC200 and used for 15yrs, tatagal po ito, saka may dating pa rin, yun lang parang napaka-impractical na rin, kung everyday driving naman at yung wear and tear naman ng sasakyan pareho lang din (depende pa sa usage), since SUV, mas mataas ang cost of maintenance.
and yung value kasi ng sasakyan, every year laging depreciated.
Mas practically wise na po na bumili ng 1-1.5M na sasakyan, then yung sobrang budget, bili ng RFO na condo unit, or pre-selling na condo, then pa-upahan, at once na nagkaroon ng long term lease, kitang kabuhayan at additional budget na rin. pag nagsawa na, pwede ibenta. since ang condo. matagal naman mag-depreciate. habang bago, pagkakitaan na agad by means of rent.

May 5th, 2015 02:01 AM #8You don't know what your preferences will be in 15 years. Your taste for car features and practical usage change as you age. Not much room for adjustment
compared to buying very 5 years.

Agree for that Sir willyfernando.
Big disadvantage po ng SUV, lalo na po sa mga senior citizen passenger, napakahirap ng situation nila pag isasakay at ibaba.

May 5th, 2015 03:12 AM #10Technology changes significantly in 5 years. Kahit pa premium SUV yan, low tech na agad in 5 years, pagsasawaan din agad.
I also use the same brand for my android auto medyo mahal compared sa non branded typc to c.
