Hi guys. We have a 2010 Honda Civic FD 1.8s AT. Carbon bronze. Less than 30k on the ODO. It is more of a garage queen since it is used mostly once or twice a week during coding. The FD is really a fun car to drive but with FC of only 6-7 km/li.

If I sell my FD and add a little, I could get a 2015 Suzuki Swift A/T.

What do you think? Thanks for sharing your insights.

If I were in your position, no way will I sell the Civic FD for the new Swift. 30k on the odo is still quite new. I'll just keep the Civic FD and use it frequently.

Will you sell a low mileage Altis or Lancer for a Wigo or Mirage? I guess not. A 5-year-old car with 30k on its odometer is still a lightly-used car. We, folks from the south metro area, are quite used to high mileage cars due to the distance we travel daily. I was doing 15k km annually on my old Accord. My 1-year-old Fiesta Ecoboost just reached 17k KM as I use it daily.

No way. the swift is smaller than the FD and when you drive the swift you will miss that FD surely because the FD drives and handles better

TS we got the same model and trim but my FC is much better, around 10.++kpl though we are living in the north. Almost the same lang ang ODO reading natin and oftentimes still loving the drive pag gamit ko. Wala din akong balak i-swap ng newer swift if i were in your shoes

Its the Metro Manila traffic that prods me to shift to a more fuel efficient car. Probability of getting caught in a traffic jam is around 90%. Maski sa skyway traffic na rin.
True the FD really drives and handles better. . .in light traffic. Maybe that's the reason why it is more of a garage queen.

Thanks for pointing that out sir funkeemunkee. Missed it.

If it's fuel then might as well sell it. The mirage/G4 has good reviews on FC. Though the swift is not far off.

Since your FD is a garage queen then why sell it? At 30k odo reading i'd stay with it for another 5yrs then maybe that's the time to sell. Sayang sir unless nagsawa ka na lang and want a new ride. The FD will out ride the swift except for agility and parking.[emoji4]

    Let's run some numbers:

You sell your FD for 480k, so you still have to add 160k for a Swift.

Given you do an average of 6.5 km/L with your FD in your route, you'll probably do about 9 km/L with the Swift. Assuming you travel 12000 km a year and gas is at P43/L:

Annual cost with the FD: 79k
Annual cost with the Swift: 57k

It will take 7.5 years before you offset the upfront cost of buying a Swift. Not to mention, you have to live with an inferior car.

This post sums it up in a cost perspective. It would be much wiser to keep the Civic FD.

Good logic. I even doubt if I can sell the FD that much.
And with data of only 4000 km/year, it will take me 22 years to offset the difference.

Sorry to butt in, have you considered the Accent Crdi among your choices? I havent driven an FD so i dont know how it handles. But in terms of efficiency, the crdi engine is a winner.

Humility aside, we have 2 CRDi's (Montero and Tucson) and definitely agree with you that it is more efficient. And that makes it more irritating. These 2 bigger and heavier CRDi's have better FC than our civic FD.

Except you will need more to maintain a VGT-powered diesel engine fed by 'dirty' Philippine diesel.

My guess is that the FC savings will get eaten up by your maintenance cost.

I don't worry about that for the moment sir.
Both are still within the free maintenance provided in the company car plan.
My wife and I will have to sweat it out for a few more years before it becomes ours. . .including the maintenance cost (huhuhu)

Hahaha! there you go sir. I don't think you'll get much gratification by switching to a slightly more efficient gas fed car (Swift) if you have those CRDI beauties in your garage.

These CRDi's are still under the companies' car plans and definitely not yet ours. I can only afford the cheap cars. . .hehe.
We used to have a 1st Gen 1.3 Vios MT. It was a nimble fuel efficient car that I can weave easily thru traffic. That's why the Swift came to mind.
