they qualified it with, "...the cars we've tested...".
they did not say, "the cars available in the market".

also, perusing the link,
all the cars mentioned are gas-fed sedans.
although the altis hybrid seemed out of the water, as it's a... hybrid.
they did not include the non-sedans, i.e., the mini hatches... wigo, mirage, celerio, eon...

questions arise regarding that article's intentions...

i suppose, folks who go off-roading, do not have fuel efficiency in mind.

yung mga car reviewers kaya like Caco, James and Reygan (etc)

since they review cars and drive almost everyday, mas matipid kaya talaga sa gas kung sila nag drive?

kasi sa Honda City ko na lang... best F/C na nakuha ko sa 20km/l (super effort yun)
pero real world highway driving is 13-15 tapos 10km/l sa Metro Manila.

yung NMAX ng officemates ko, best they can get is 35km/l sa city, pero reviewers are saying higher "real world" figures

Problem is the FC they say in their review is not via Full Tank method. They just rely on the digital FC reading average. Most of them don't even bother to mention the average speed of the trip of how they obtained the said FC reading. While some simply "pass the message" of the marketing materials pertaining to the FC of the car.

If it was via full tank method, the reviewer would have said that as the method they used to get the FC mentioned. But it would be really difficult as well to expect them to give full tank method for a city driving FC scenario and a highway/mixed FC Scenario that would be repeatable for all vehicles they test unlike Bjorn Nyland for his electric range test, Alex on Autos for his daily trip to and fro his house or TFL when they do the highway hill climb and descent FC test.

I do agree that it "normal" scenarios, the FC Digital meter/display shows at most a discrepancy of 3-5% per my experience. However, in not so "ideal" FC check scenarios in real world. I have gotten discrepancy of +/-10% to 15% from what the FC gauge displays. (idling persistent here due to traffic or "waiting in vehicle")

The lower the FC Reading, the lesser impact that discrepancy would be. But if it were to come from the highway/mixed FC Reading, that most probably will have a more significant impact.

Yung 20+kms/l, nakakagulat yun especially kung city driving or mixed conditions. If highway, I would like to know at what average speed that is supposedly taken at. But, yeah, even with a 1.5 to 1.6L gas engine, I have yet to achieve 20km/l actual FC via full tank method. 16km/l lang highest ko sa gasoline na highway exclusive driving while sa diesel na 2.5L at most was 14km/l pag highway only and this is keeping revs below 1500rpm para di sumipa yung turbo masyado. Mixed is 10-11km/l.

it depends on how the review-er did it.
some will rely on the instrument cluster's computerized read-out.
some will come up with their own figures, based on maneuvers only they will know.
even some reputable furrin auto magazines will, at times, borrow from the manufacturer's brochure.

but i have never, personally, equalled or bettered, these published good-lookin' km/li figures. i always ended up with less impressive numbers.

Ok naman na ata yun for a daily driver (gas) sedan?

But compared to those used to SUV fuel consumption, baka superb na yun
Paano pa kaya yung mga FJ (4.0 engine)???

Believe it or not, mas magasto yung 2.7L vvti fortuner namin dati compared to our FJ. The fortuner gets 4km/L in light traffic and 8km/L in the highway.

sa akin pinapadala ng tropa ko yung Prado 4.0 nila pag mag long drive kami, i think same engine with the FJ? 1GR-FE. tinatamad kasi siya lagi sa long trips. compute ko is 6+ km/l lang highway, upsized yung wheels and A/T tires though so nagccontribute din yun.

kusa nga lang lumiliko pag nakakakita ng gasolinahan siya naman nagpapa-gas so ok lang sa akin. i enjoy driving it everytime.
