may C! mag review sila...hanap ko ung issue, baka may back issue pa sila, look mo dun ang review nila...
pero for me, like C!, in terms of performance, package..i will definately choose the LYNX RS..mas ok kung makakakuha ka ng 100yr aniv. lynx...masmaganda ang interior combination kaysa sa rs..
one big difference is: transmission....

I'll go with the RS... one of the most fun and affordable cars to own! torquey engine, great handler, and aggressive looking!
but gooodluck in finding an owner willing to part with his beloved RS.

Ang Toyota Altis 1.8, mas tahimik sa loob at mas malambot ang suspension. Mas malaki yung rear seat space dahil mataas ang roofline, pero mataas din ang beltline o window line. Quiet siya over bumps and on the highway. Mabagal nga lang ang performance, kahit supposedly 145 hp siya. HINDI TOTOO ang horsepower rating nito. Ang general consensus ng mga owners/testers, parang mga 126 hp lang siya. (Mabagal!) Okay siyang kunin kung gusto mo ng commuter car.
Reliability is supposed to be good, kahit yung 2001 model ng pinsan ko di pa maingay ang ride. Yung shocks at springs, though, medyo malambot, kaya kailangan din i-replace yun after a while.

Yung Ford Lynx RS, hands down, mas mabilis, mas maganda ang steering at mas maganda ang handling. Ika nga, according to some testers in the US (Mazda MP3 siya dun), parang BMW daw yung steering niya. Malakas yung torque niya, kaya hindi mahirap masyado sa trapik, kahit manual lang siya.
Yung loob, medyo old fashioned, mas kaunti yung space pero di naman "cheap" ang feeling. Simple lang lahat, at maganda ang plastic sa dashboard at yung leather ng steering at shift knob (especially compared to the Altis). Maganda din yung sunroof, pero kinakain ng sunroof mechanism ang headroom sa likod. Malaki yung mga windows, at maganda ang view mo galing sa driver's seat. Medyo mas mataas ang nguso ng RS kumpara sa Civic, pero di kasing laki ng sa Corolla.
Yung power ng RS maganda. Marami siyang torque, kaya madaling mag-overtake, kahit naka-high gear ka na. Di siya kasing bilis ng SiR sa mga drag races, pero di mo yan mapapansin sa trapik o highway (). Mas mabilis siya kaysa sa Focus 2.0, Civic 2.0, Mazda 3 2.0R at Altis 1.8. Pero lalabas na yung Civic 2.0 MT, at malamang mas mabilis pa yun, pero likely malambot pa rin masyado ang suspension.
Yung handling ng RS ang selling point niya. Mabilis siyang mag-turn, at wala siyang understeer at all kung hindi ka nasa racetrack. Mas quick yung turn-in niya kung ikumpara sa Civic SiR, at maganda ang feedback sa steering niya, di katulad ng nasa Altis o Sentra na halos wala kang mararamdaman sa steering wheel. Yung Mazda 2.0R lang yung may steering na halos kasing ganda ng RS dito, pero medyo mabigat siya.
Matigas ang suspension ng RS, pero di naman sobrang matagtag. Mas maganda ang ride niya kung ikumpara sa Crosswind o Revo, pero di kasing comfortable ng Altis. Nakakatulog pa naman ang baby ko sa likod kapag dumadaan kami sa South Super Lubakway. :p Dahil matigas nga ang suspension, sumusunod pag minsan ang gulong sa mga bumps at grooves sa mga pangit na kalye (tramlining) katulad ng mga ibang sections ng South Superhighway. Mahirap lang naman kung di ka sanay sa mga kotseng naka-sports tires.
Yung mga problems ng RS, medyo notchy yung gearshift niya pag malamig o mainit, at mahirap minsan i-judge yung clutch take-off. Mas kaunti yung sound insulation niya kaysa sa Altis, kaya medyo tinny yung sound niya kung isara mo yung pintuan.
Kung sa reliability ang usapan, wala pa naman masyadong nagkakaproblema sa mga RS nila. Yung isang member namin, nagka-problema sa ECU, pero sa kanya pa lang nangyayari ito... parang freak accident lang. Yung mga headache ng mga 2001 Lynx in terms of cam sensors at MAF sensors, di lumalabas sa mga 2003-2005 Lynx at sa Lynx RS. Iba kasi ang makina ng RS.
Sa US, maganda naman ang reputation ng RS (MP3) in terms of reliability and build quality. Medyo mahal nga lang ang mga engine parts at accessories dahil sa casa ka lang makakapunta, pero worth it, para sa akin.
In terms of fuel economy... siyempre, panalo ang Toyota (mas maliit ang makina, at mas mahina), pero okay naman ang RS. Mas matipid ang RS kaysa sa Focus 2.0 o Honda Civic 2.0 dahil manual. 8-9 km/l ako sa city/highway traffic na medyo mabilis ang takbo, 11+ km/l sa highway/probinsya. Mga 7-8 km/l siya kung puro birit birit. Kung regular bumper to bumper traffic, mga 8-8.5 km/l. Kung Christmas traffic (tatlong oras nakapila sa Tutuban), siguro mga 6-7 km/l.
Kung titignan mo in terms of money, mas okay talaga ang Toyota... pero kung gusto mo ng medyo poging tsikot na mabilis, di ka naman magsisisi sa RS.

Yung RS CE, meron naman secondhand for around 550k. Just make sure you don't buy the lowrider one. :lol:
Of note. Yung difference lang ng CE ay may 100th Anniversary badge sa likod at probably may "Nardi" na tatak sa steering wheel (although all RS units have original Nardi leather steering wheels). After the first 100 RS CE units were sold, all RS units were in Infrared Metallic until mid-2005, when they released black units again, but without the 100th Anniversary badge.
There are just two special color RS units that we know of, one white unit and one blue-green metallic unit, both owned by ford club members. These are special because they are both factory direct colors. Ika nga, one-of-a-kind.
BTW, if you see RS's with silver badges instead of red, they're not fake. madali lang masyado mag-peel ang paint ng badge ng RS. :lol:
Atsaka madali naman i-authenticate ang RS kung bibili ka secondhand, as of last count, 240 units lang ang nandito.

Typical PMS is around 2,000+... can't remember exactly, pero under 2,500. That's at the casa. Outside is cheaper, definitely.
Medyo mahal yung alignment and brake work dahil 440 per hour ang labor (easy to just do this outside nalang). Mahal din ang suspension parts, so it's easier to get outside. Take note, iba yung shocks at springs ng RS sa typical na Lynx, so if you ever need to replace them, might as well get a full set of H&R (costs only a bit more than a full set at the casa).
If there are any problems regarding sensors, sensors for any Ford typically cost under 5,000 (even for Expeditions) so it's not painful to fix despite horror stories from some 2001 Lynx 1.6 owners. Pero since two years old or less yung mga RS, you won't need to think about this for a long time. Anyway, no reported sensor problems for the 2.0 yet.
Engine accessories are an unknown, but any possible problems will be just as cheap/expensive as with any 1.6 - 2.0 compact car.
450 is good if that's a 2003 unit... I'd have expected the price to be around 495 at 40% depreciation, but the market for secondhand Ford Lynxes is very thin, so take advantage of it if you really want it.
If the RS is modified, check how well the engine runs. Aside from Oyo boy's unit, there are rumors of another RS that had a blown engine because the owner overboosted it with a turbo. Better to get an RS with all stock or Intake-Headers-Exhaust mods only. Also, better check for accident damage... medyo mabilis kasi mag-drive ang mga RS owners, eh. :lol:

i'm a toyota guy, but choosing between the 2 especially kung for weekend/recreation, I'll get the RS anytime over the altis
