yup yup. pero we use diesel. may nakalaan na gas slips sa bawat officer. yung diesel eh para sa army-issused vehicles lang, yung gas issued sa officers. since di naman namin ginagamit yun, i "guess" pwede kong kunin.. lol

The gas slips are good benefits for officers... otherwise, what would encourage them to stay in the military with the crappy pay scale, the need to deal with or be shunned by the "old boys club" and the chance of being shot at by rebels?

    -

At a 150k budget, I'd say look for something at 100k and set aside the 50k for emergency repairs. The best you can get in that budget is an old Sentra (maybe a 92-94), but it'll need a lot of work.

Any car below 200k will need work, unless you luck out on a well-cared for example, so "stretching" might be problematic.

kaya yan 150k mo. tyaga lang mag hanap. i just bought and sold sariwa 1994 corolla bigbody xe. 1.3L carb. tipid sa gas. 50k mileage on it. walang kalampag. un mga dpat palitan, napalitan na. drive na agad. i sold it 120k only. so i think kasya yan 150k mo.

Try getting a car within 100-120 (actually... if you can stretch to around 250, you can get cars that won't give you a hassle for at least a few months to a year).

Make sure the engine runs well and the transmission doesn't grind (don't even think about getting a matic). Check that the suspension doesn't bounce after you push down on the car. (shocks are around 2k plus a piece... without labor and alignment... don't want to do that any time soon...).

Check that there's no mud in the oil and no rust in the radiator. Expect rust in the radiator, anyway. People are kind of hard headed about not using pure water or tap water in the cooling system.

Check that all the wiring and hoses are intact and that there are no cracks on anything.

Expect to change some wiring or cooling hoses within the first year or two, anyway, despite these precautions.

Check the brakes and tires. Tires are a regular wear item, but you don't want to spend on them right away.

I like the Sentra because the timing chain means no worries over a timing belt... but it'll depend on the condition of the car... how well it idles (did you check the hoses on the engine yet?) and how well it runs. Most secondhand Japanese cars should run for over 200,000 kms as long as they were properly cared for... but engines can pop with as little as 60,000 kilometers if they weren't.

Like dieselNUBI says... kaya yun, but you have to buy carefully and don't rush the purchase. ;)

hay.. naalala ko tuloy yung mga classmates kong girls na taga south din. kapag uwian na, "(my name), pwedeng maki-hitch? kahit hanggang Festi lang..." with matching pa-cute effect pa. ok lang naman maging madamot paminsan-minsan. pero mas masarap pa rin yung may chickas sa passenger seat or better, sa ......

    BTT:

at your budget, i'll get a Corolla bigbody XE or kung kaya ng 250k, get a Kia Picanto or Hyundai Getz primarily because of their fuel consumption. at least, medyo bago-bago pa.

Here are some of my experiences. A relative of mine has a '97 Sentra LEC PS with 50+k on the odo, once it was driven to Subic. Before the trip, the gas tank was filled to the brim and when it was time to return, it was also time to fill up... from the bottom. It is important to note though that the car was filled with five adults and one child and the trunk was full and it was running around 100-120km/h at NLEX and SCTEX. But if you really want a car of that sort, perhaps a Lancer GLXi would be nice (the itlog, not the pizza). I have another relative in Baguio who owns a '94 GLXi with around 190+k on the odo and still runs smoothly around the steep inclines of Baguio and comes to Manila often running SCTEX at around 150-160km/h. It is worth noting that the Lancer is scantily maintained (faded paint, some rust, etc). If I were you and had a limited budget, I'd stay away from the Hondas since these, despite offering good performance and fuel efficiency, costs an arm and a leg when it comes to parts and maintenance. If you ferry your classmates regularly then the L300 or Revo will also fit your budget, it will also come in handy when you will be hauling stuff, ferrying relatives out of town or when there are floods on your way home. You can find a lot more choices at sulit.com.ph if you want.

A 250k budget, yes. AT 150k, the only L300s you can buy are nineteen-copong-copong L300s with aftermarket AC conversions.

Suwerte mo kid, nakakainggit ka. Wala ka pa sa college, may car na nag-hihintay sa iyo. When I was in college at UST- Engineering, Cadillac-kad service namin. Di ako makaporma sa mga pretty girls in our school. Kaya study to death ako until I graduated and landed a job. The time nagkakotse ako was after getting a nice job in which I earned well. Regarding fuel consumption of Sentra's, they normally average 8-10 kms/ liter on city driving. My previous experience on Sentra 1.6 ECCS was normally 10 kms/ liter city driving with aircon on, on highway was 12-14 kms/ liter at an average speed of 80-110 km/hour. The usual problem of Sentras is the underchassis (rack end, tie rod), transmission (5th gear slipping), and alternator. With your budget of P150T, try to look for 1996 Nissan Sentra Series 3, 1.6L, manual transmission, preferably below 100T mileage. In your case, suggest to allot a budget for regular maintenance monthly when buying second hand cars. Final advice, study well and seriously so you could earn a college degree. Saka na muna mga barkadas, chikas. Gastos lang mga yan.
