    Hello,

I'm planning to get the wife a compact SUV sometime in the middle of next year. So far, my choices are the following:

    Honda HR-V / Vezel
    Mazda CX-3
    Subaru XV
    Nissan X-Trail 2.0

IF all 4 models were already locally available and priced within 50k of each other, it would be a toss-up between the Honda and the Mazda since my mom already owns an XV (we live in the same house so I would prefer a little variety in the garage) and I feel like the X-Trail's overpriced and too stripped-down for what you get (No foglights?!).

However, given we don't know if and when these models will be released, can anyone recommend something else besides the 4 I mentioned? It can be a released or an upcoming model (but confirmed) for next year.

Please no Ecosport, I can't stand the front end (no offense intended to owners out there)

No truck-based SUVs like the Montero, Fortuner, etc. either

Budget's 1m-1.3m though I can stretch it to 1.5m if we reaaally like the model.

    Thanks in advance!

Thanks sir, but I'm already aware of that.

As per my query, I'm actually soliciting suggestions for alternatives in case these 2 models don't arrive by mid to late next year

How about include the following in your list of options? They all fall within the 1.5M price tag

    Subaru Forester 2.0L
    Mazda CX-5
    Ford Escape 1.6L Ecoboost
    Honda CRV
    Toyota RAV4
    Kia Sportage gas or diesel
    Hyundai Tucson gas or diesel

That's actually not a bad suggestion, but isn't it getting a little too old? I think it was first released around 2010 pa ata.. Would that discourage you from buying one?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there supposed to be an all-new Sportage and Tucson coming out in 2016?

^^^ At the moment, Kia or Hyundai has no local news yet of any model changes for the Sportage and Tucson.

Honda has just released a redesigned CRV (MMC - minor model changes) while the Ford Escape Ecoboost will be available locally by January 2015.

My wife drives a Tucson crdi, 4WD, 6 speed, automatic.

    HID headlamps - check
    Aux driving lamps - check
    Sat-Nav - check
    DVD player - check
    AUX connections - check
3 DC plugs (2 in front, 1 at the rear) - check (great for charging your gadgets)

    And many more.

So far, she's very satisfied. Me too.

Thanks for the feedback sir. My friend lent me his 4x4 Gas AT for a week and I was pretty satisfied with it. My only complaint was the spongy brake feel, but overall I think it was a really good car.

I think I'll wait for the crop of new compact SUVs scheduled to arrive next year before making my decision para no regrets..

    Happy wife, happy life.

My wife enjoys driving our CX-5 2.0. Feels small compared to its size ung driving dynamics and it has a high safety rating na rin, ABS w/ EBD, stability control, traction control and 6 airbags. Not a very fast (acceleration-wise) CUV which is OK lang naman because we don't have a lot of long highways (or good roads, or non-tricycle/jeepney infested areas) here to flex those engines but it is quick and agile naman sa city. We get 9-10 km/L sa mostly city driving (moderate to heavy traffic) which I think is good enough fc.

also waiting for the HRV. based from it's pricing in thailand, it seems that it will slot in between the jazz and the crv, probably around P1M to 1.3M. interior seems exactly like the jazz with a bigger cargo space. engine options vary from 1.5 to 1.8. hopefully, we get the latter.
