Although the Focus is a very nice ride, I have the same issues as you which includes the long term maintenance cost. Since you are stuck with the "casa" for most repairs, costs can escalate pretty quickly.
In that light, I would rather go for the Civic option.

Handling, it's actually a tie... though they have differen characters, they're both very good handlers. Ergonomics... hmmm... Honda's better seat-control ratio or Ford's more comfortable seats? Tough call.
Maintenance? That's the only factor. Honda's 10,000 kilometer interval is great for saving money if you're still within the warranty period... but I'm not sure that parts specifically for the Civic, aside from suspension parts, are any easier to find outside the casa.

Teka, sa pagkaka-alam ko every 10k din ang maintenance ng focus. Am I mistaken?

RE: SiR... obviously resale value is high because those cars are rare with a very desirable engine. They were quite expensive when new, considering they had less kit than the competition, because you were paying all that money for the engine. The equivalent price nowadays, if the SiR was sold brand new would probably be around 1m... it's not surprising that the resale value is still high.
