Hi all! Big thanks for all your thoughts. Now I'm close to ditching the ecosport deal considering all your inputs. haha!

I'm now seriously considering Grand Vitara 2.4L, also the Nissan Juke 1.6 and the Hyundai Accent Hatch 1.6L CRDI GL A/T. At least medyo na-narrow down into three ang options ko.

I'm now close to buying Accent considering its high torque for a hatch (and read good reviews about it), and ofcouse, way cheaper. haha But my only concern is that Hyundai cars are Korea manufactured. Okay ba ang Korean cars compared to Jap cars? Coz if not, I might consider the Vitara or Juke.

The Hyundai is fine. I hear issues here and there (a friend had service related issues with Hyundai Alabang) and from my experience before, pasensyahan talaga with some small warranty claims (defective power window switch) but overall we're still happy with the Hyundai we have (a 2009 Tucson CRDi).

I find myself at the tail-end of some lately.

All seem to "jerk" in stop and go traffic, be it old (plated) or new models (cond. sticker).

Just my observation.

Though its a PITA to drive a jerky car, IMHO.

my choice has nothing to do with race; only (perceived) product quality vis a vis cost.
i'd buy a timbuktu special, if i thought it offered good product package quality at competitive price.

Honestly, your opinion is shared here, doc. They gained ground in the North American market w/ creative offers, extended warranties, celebrity endorsers, Peter Schreyer & all....but, we just don't have their roads, their traffic conditions, their climate, their maintenance discipline/standards, etc....Let's continue to give em more time. They should soon get theirs to age well here.[emoji4]

ang sumira lang naman ng reputation ng hyundai was h.a.r i. with their overpriced parts and services. add to that their greedy marketting that priced their products way above the competition.

as for kia, my experience with them is quite good. kia philippines honors warranties and parts costs are reasonable. example, a rear abs sensor unit (this is the whole rear assembly complete with wheel bearings) cost only p8.5k labor included. if i had just kept my warranty after the 3 years then free pa sana since the part was covered under the extended 5 year warranty.

Re. Ecosport, i've driven the manual transmission variant and i find it lethargic. Given you are based up in the mountains, get a diesel as the low-end torque will really be welcome.

Same thoughts and observations here. My friend who had some issues with his Starex was not miffed off about the issues of the car (which happens to other brands) but how the Hyundai Dealer handled the job. I'm happy with our old Tucson and i don't go for servicing at the dealer anyway, and most parts are available at my suking tindahan.

I just tested the cvt just now on some really steep stuff. no issues and its super smooth.

the cvt advantage is that the infinite gear/ratio will always get whatever you require. medium speed uphill or highway the cvt will choose the right ratio depending on your pedal position.

if youve tried a manual tranny or a 4spd auto. remember when the transmission shifts down to 2nd gear or 1st to find that required torque.. it is so old school compared to this cvt.

go for mobilio or brv. the mobilio will have a slightly better power to weight ratio. the brv will have a different cvt programming. and a higher ground clearance. get a cvt vehicle with a reverse camera 😉
