Anything but a canopy bro. Nawala ang pagka-macho nung pick up.
Roller lid's been problematic, plus it does eat into the cargo space.

February 11th, 2014 02:34 PM #63Im so with you on this, sir IMm29. Sobrang problematic talaga yan pag lumuma at nag rust na. Hindi na yan magri retract and close. Pati remote niya magiging useless and you will end up with the so called override button.
Plus its casing eats up a lot of space on the bed.
Ung akin I replaced it with ung sa Ride Inc, ung manual na. Same with the roller lid lalo nung lumuma na. Ang maganda lang pag ayaw mag retract, I will just remove the cover, spray WD40 and with a little help, mare retract na ulit. Then push and pull until it loosens up. And ung casing niya, it doesn't eat up as much space as the roller lid.

February 11th, 2014 08:00 PM #67Yes sir IMm29, my Dmax has the manual roll top from Ride Inc. The brand is Pace Edwards.
Back in 08, after getting my truck from the dealership, I brought it straight to Carryboy for them to spray the bed liner and that roller lid. I didn't really like that roller lid at first coz from my experience in PE roll top that was on my Mazda B2500, once it gets old, the part that rolls gets rusty and it will be very hard to retract. But I bit the bullet and went ahead thinking that since it's a new product, it might be different. I was wrong.
From the installation, it was problematic already. The key didn't work properly, the module always malfunctioned, etc.
That was around August of 08. After about 2.5 yrs, it suddenly got stuck and didn't wanna retract anymore. I called Carryboy and asked if they repair. They said that I should try to bring it to a shop somewhere in E. Rod. I am like, "why can't I just bring it there?" They said that they don't repair in their shop in Banawe. F*ck!
To my dismay, I went to Ride and had it dismantled and replaced it with Pace Edwards roll top.
3 yrs after, my PE roll top is getting problematic with retracting. Like what I have said, I have to remove the cover first, spray a lubricant and help it retract. But after that, it will be good again until the next car wash. But at least there is still a way to push and pull it even if it's like that unlike the roller lid.
Their common denominator is they are not water proof. So if it's raining so hard, don't put anything there that you don't wanna get wet.

February 11th, 2014 08:04 PM #68Mukhang PE nga yan, sir yebo, and that is what I have installed in my truck since I replaced my Carryboy roller lid since 2011.

Since may extra RP oils ako, I tried that to lubricate pero wala din. So I tried WD40, ganon pa din. Pagka car wash kasi, ung casing nun, doon pumupunta ung tubig and hindi naman water tight un so water can seep in the sides of the cover. So what I would do is before washing the car, I retract it first. Unlike the other way around.
Pinili ko din ang roll top kasi di ko din type ung may hard cover or anything that can limit a height of a stuff that I can put on the bed. Unlike this, open and close lang.
Pero un lang may trade off; it's not waterproof and pag lumuma, mahirap din iopen and close. Pero sanayan lang yan.
Na try ko din ung parang canvas where you will snap it. Hindi ko type kasi you can't put anything important on the bed kasi you just unsnap it, bukas na. Yung roll top kasi may key and matigas siya so you need to totally wreck it para nakawin mo ung laman ng bed.
Pag umuulan, pwede mong balutin ung stuff that shouldn't get wet. Ganyan ang ginagawa namin sa sacks of rice. Or, put stacks of wood where you can place your stuff. Hindi naman nanggagaling ung water in between the aluminum bars but from the sides and drainage niya. So yung floor ng bed ang nababasa talaga.
Sa roller lid, if I recall, pumapasok ata ung tubig in between the bars kasi nung umulan noon, pati ung bags na on top of other bags, basang basa din.
